Need help changing resolution back from the launch screen
I changed the resolution and now the game won't start. I've try deleting and reinstalling it but that doesn't work. Could someone please tell me how to change the resolution before launching the game. Thanks and I'm pretty much a tech noob. I've seen a couple of youtube videos on how to but they don't seem to work for me.

Thank you for this. It fixed the problem. Do you know what is the highest resolution I can play on without this happening again? I have an Nvidea 2070 card and a 2560 x 1440 monitor.

The Steam version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein has those "widescreen" options built in for whatever reason, and choosing those will crash your game and make it not even start up again. Really stupid that those are included, as the retail version of the game never had them. IIRC, the highest you could go in the retail version was 1024x768 resolution. If it's not a 4:3 aspect ratio, it'll crash, so I would just go with that 1024x768 resolution I mentioned.

With that said, there have been a couple fanmade patches made to give the game proper support for widescreen and native resolution. Doom has GZDoom and Chocolate Doom, Quake has Darkplaces and Quakespasm, and my favorite option for RtCW is definitely the ioRTCW sourceport, which you can get the latest release from here:

https://github.com/iortcw/iortcw/releases/tag/1.51c.

Using a program like WinRAR or 7zip, extract it into your "steamapps/common/Return to Castle Wolfenstein" folder, merging and overwriting when asked. After that, doubleclick on the "ioWolfSP" application and open it up to start the game up in the sourceport. Go to the in-game options and pick 2560x1440 or Automatic (Native), and then click Fullscreen: Yes. If you get any FPS issues, tick the graphics settings down a notch until fixed. The Highest Quality setting has a new renderer which has support for better, dynamic lighting and shadows, but can tank your FPS a little bit.

What I don't suggest you do if you want widescreen is to go into the wolfconfig.cfg file and alter the values yourself, like PCGamingWiki suggests you do. This will cause to game to crash at many points during the campaign, such as at the end of the Tram mission.
