if you are goin to start to play again RTCW multiplayer i recommend you install rtcw 1.0 and try to make a CFG that will help you alot to improve in this game.
Yes there are many people playing RTCW mostly on 6v6 gathers or 3v3 but if you wanna something casual there is a server called "EastCoastDM" focused mostly on Deathmatch that server is probably the best way to start to improve the aim
type on console /connect wolfdm.xyz

Also, like tweety says, you can crouch to lower your center of gravity and get heavily increased accuracy on your SMGs at medium range. You'll notice your crosshair pulse has a much tighter cone of fire when you do this, and it's a huge help when you're overwhelmed and not able to rush in and fill your crosshair with their heads instead. There's no penalty to your accuracy for moving or sprinting, so make sure you're constantly moving while shooting when you can. It throws their aim off, and you can reset their windups by breaking line of sight often. It also helps to learn some burst control and fire in short bursts to keep the RNG spread at a minimum. Have fun!
i dont recommend play RTCW 1.4 (steam version) and more if you goin to focus on multiplayer, RTCW 1.4 it has alot disvantages in make cfg like disabling blood effect or modding the game like using custom models ETC i highly recommend you install rtcw 1.0 (SE) https://rtcwchile.webs.com/rtcw-multi the page is on spanish but you can translate it there in the page it tells every detail what include version 1.0 and 1.4 rtcw and the changes give a look!
When you have installed version 1.0 you will be able to modding the game to your liking to multiplayer is the best advantage of this version and it also includes hitsounds and custom crosshairs in which it can benefit you a lot check this page if you like any of these models and paste them in the RTCWPub folder (if you entered eastcoastdm that rtcwpub folder will be created) if you play another server with bots they will make a custom folder (ffmod example) check the folders that are left when you enter the server and to install the models paste the model *example*.pk3 on RTCWPub folder and thats all, see you in the game ;)

my bad
Also, I'd recommend playing on the Easiest difficulty if the enemy behavior is giving you problems. RTCW's difficulties don't change much about the game, but they do slightly alter the enemy behavior. On Don't Hurt Me, it's more common to send the enemy into a pain chance (hitstun) animation when you shoot them, their attack patterns are a bit less aggressive, and their accuracy is much lower. It's a more fun experience for most people playing it for the first time, and you don't have to worry about missing out on higher enemy counts since those don't change with the difficulty, and even on the the easiest mode, it's still relatively challenging.
To change the difficulty mid-playthrough, you can just enter these two commands into your in-game console:
/g_gameskill 1
/vid_restart
To change it back to medium or hard difficulty, set /g_gameskill to "2" or "3", respectively.
