First off, download the sourceport from the Github link. Choose the right download for your system. Most people are on Windows, so if you're on a 64-bit Windows, download iortcw-1.51c-win-x64.zip, or if you're on a 32-bit system, download iortcw-1.51c-win-x86.zip.

Using a program like WinRAR or 7zip, extract the files into your C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Return to Castle Wolfenstein folder, or wherever your Steam installation of RTCW is. When it asks you if you want to overwrite a file, just say Yes. Here is how your files should look in your Return to Castle Wolfenstein folder if you did everything right:

From there, you can simply doubleclick the "ioWolfSP" executable to open the game in the source port.
This next step is completely optional, as you can start the game up through the sourceport by opening the sourceport executable ioWolfSP.exe. However, you'll notice that Steam isn't tracking your time played, and you still can't start the game through Steam. If you really want Steam to track your hours in the game, delete or move the existing WolfSP.exe file, and then rename ioWolfSP.exe to WolfSP.exe to replace it. If you do that, you will be able to start the sourceport through Steam like you normally would start the game (through your Steam library), and Steam will also track your time played. Steam looks for "WolfSP.exe" to run the game when you press that green play button on Steam, and by naming the sourceport file to that instead, it will just work and start up the sourceport file that's been renamed to it.
If you get any framerate issues, simply tick the quality down a notch. The highest quality option setting uses a new renderer which can be taxing on a lot of systems. Lastly, the only problem with this sourceport is that there is a lipsyncing bug which you'll probably notice early on. To fix this, open up the in-game console with the tilde ` key, and enter the commands "/s_useopenal 0" and then "/snd_restart". The lip syncing of the in-game characters will now be noticeably improved.
Hope that helps, sorry for the long response lol.
Not the OP, but this was very helpful thank you. One question. Do the 2 in-game console commands to fix the lip snyc need to be put in on each start up of the game or just the one time?
Oh well in that case the source port mentioned earlier would probably be your best bet.
