I waited for the alb quests to be fixed, which was done. I joined them and learned their skills. Despite having them, I can only cast ice fist and some other one spell. Chain lightning and other abilities are not in the inventory and there's no way to equip them.

How does that make any sense? How am I supposed to know that? Where there any prompts about it?

Only heal and blizzard are spells in inventory, Ice fist is a weapon-like item in inventory. Booster is AoE upgrade od ice fist, basically heavy attack. Chain lightning is ranged Ice fist modifier, use as a ranged weapon.

Because i some how doubt you will never not play a new game again upon release. You probably already have one pre ordered. Whatever happened to just asking nicely; "Hey, can anybody please help me with how I can use Chain Lightning and a few other abilities? Thanks!"? Fortunately the community is polite and helpful, no matter what.

Some things require learning by doing.

Ice First is a melee range spell. If you learn "Boost", you can hold the attack button and cause devastating AoE damage instead. Lightning Bolt requires right button to target, hold to sustain damage.
