SSD or HDD?
I have both, a SATA2 HDD and recently got an SSD, so if someone could share their experience with this game regarding textures popping in-game on older HDDs, it would be much appreciated.

P. S. Just in case you are willing to laugh at me for SATA2 HDD in 2022, don't, it can actually still be pretty decent, for example, I didn't notice much problems while playing even some of the more recent and heavy games like RDR2. Kingdom Come Deliverance, however, did have some problems, as well as Elden Ring, but it was minor and not disrupting at all.

Always SSD. Have not had a HDD in my computer for more than 5 years, will never own another one.

Honestly if you have an SSD run it on there. Newer games will be taking advantage of NVME speeds these days. As thats one of the biggest upgrades for next gen consoles. Well it is THE biggest upgrade. Tbh a cheap 500gb NVMe is not even 200 bucks :0. But I understand some people are not able to budget computers into their cost.

This game right now has issues with pop in in towns in general. Like objects going bye bye for half a second and them popping back in. It does this for a few seconds and then stops. So Not sure why thats an issue? I do have a 5gbp/s NVMe. So If I have these issues on that. then I feel like it would be actually flat out annoying on HDs lmao.

When in the open world on my ssd pop in doesnt really happen much. at least as far as I notice. Its about the normal amount for an open world RPG.

Just put it on your SSD. Keep the HD for games pre 2020 tbh.

Texture pop in depends on harddrive XD. After all games are not stored in the ram or GPU :^)

Cant play the game cuttently but ive never used an SSD that seemed to have any effect on my gaming so i just have always used an HDD. Ive tried 2 or 3 diff SSD's over the years. Maybe i just dont play games that matter for it to make a difference.

They do make a difference. In kingdom come for instance you dont see them loading in as much, or it just loads in much faster. Plus load times especially with a 5000mbps nvme are super fast. Like you may think "oh its only 8-10 seconds" but that on repeat over and over adds up pretty fast. Like I can launch elex two in 20 seconds, same with cyberpunk (as long as I take out the logos and intro videos). If I go to my ps4 pro and try to load days gone it takes at least triple the amount of time. Which is like a literal minute or more XD.

The ssd's might have also not been that fast. Like remember 500mbps is def faster than a HD but that compared to what the xbox X (5000mbps) or ps5 (7200mbps) have It helps a lot. You will get less stuttering too in certain games too.

I have a high performance m.2 PCIe SSD and on games that have texture popping I get it just the same as anyone else. My rig boots instantly, but performance on things like Gothic 3 and other games with certain graphical issues ... it doesn't fix them.

The main reason I like SSD is because of the fast startup, and it's quiet and less heat. I'm well past the "ten fans and twenty slots" phase, my machines are all tiny mini ITX now designed for high performance with as little heat and noise as possible.

You have fans? :MHRISE_Felyne:
the only fans on my PC are for the CPU and GPU. my case is on its side and open too XD. literally no case fans work anymore. BUT tbh it runs cooler than what it ran while it was close cased. I just have to make sure to dust it somewhat often. Several times a year infact.

Lol! Yeah I have one case fan, but it's a big one running slow so it's totally silent.

God dang thats a small ass case!. Idrc about the size of my pc I have nothing in my room besides my couch which is my gaming chair and my bed :^) and a desk, and a coffee table to put the computer on since I live on the bottom floor in this apt, I dont wanna risk a flood and it ruining my baby D:.
I dont even care about sound either lol. I have headphones on usually so meh. Plus if its loud I know its running much cooler :D

HDD here and no texture pop or any performance issues.

I installed it on HDD, the only place where i noticed some texture issues is in the cave of the morkons.

good explanation for sure. i wouldnt know console times cause my ps4 is dead and im not a console gamer any longer ;) that said ive not tried to put a game on an SSD recently mostly cause im not paying the price for an SSD that can store my 4 to 7 TB of games that i like to have on hand(yeah i know, im a dummy lol) that my WD hdd 4 tb can store along with my two 1 tb hdd samsungs. in the future though esp with vme now, ill prob have to upgrade and it will prob make a bigger difference for sure. thanks for imparting the knowledge!

I actually have this on an external drive and it runs good.
Hathur Mar 4, 2022 @ 6:38pm
Have tried it on SSD and HDD, no performance difference whatsoever / no texture issues on either. Only difference was booting the game up was noticeably faster on SSD and loading save files a little faster on ssd as well (though loading saves on HDD is still fast, about 8 seconds, 5 seconds on ssd)
