About Cycles
Hello all!

I’m very new to this genre of ARPG, and I’ve got a few questions regarding cycles! I’ve mainly been a traditional MMO player (Gw/Gw2, etc), so this is seasonal concept is all quite new to me.

I’m mostly curious about whether or I will lose progress on a character as the game progress. I read about "Cycles", but I'm still somewhat confused and have a few questions:

1. Are cycles optional?
2. Can I still participate in new content, if I don't partake in "Cycles"?
3. Can I continue to use one character throughout my time playing this game and not lose progress, like in other MMO/ARPGs?

They haven't announced new content that is only part of the cycles, so any updates and stuff they add would most likely not be restricted to the Cycles.

If they mimic what PoE and Diablo do then each cycle usually has a gimmick and a new mechanic for fun, and to keep it fair everyone starts fresh so no one has an advantage

it's just that their reddit Q&A has me a little worried
(https://www.reddit.com/r/LastEpoch/comments/1al7m6c/last_epoch_faqs_for_newcomers/)

"Q: What is the difference between the permanent Legacy Cycle and temporary cycles?

A: Currently there is no difference, for a few cycles Legacy and temporary cycles will share the updates meaning new content can be played in both. This will not be the case at some point where new content will be temporary cycle exclusive. It should be noted, however, that the Legacy Cycle might get the new content at a later date."

Notably the last 2nd sentence ) :

Anywho, ty all for the info!

Yeah like for instance its what path of exile does. A cycle might have a new feature that impacts how the game plays It might only be in that cycle but if its liked then after the cycle ends it gets added to the legacy cycle in some form.

So you can ignore the cycles and just play on the legacy one and have 99% of the content. Although the new cycles are fun because the economy is usually much more vibrant as everyone isn't maxed with butt loads of gold. Everyone starts off fresh on equal footing.

So you will have almost all the content in legacy, and some new content you can play in the league cycles.

So if they say add a new char class its not going to be tied to cycle. If they add skills its not tied to cycles.

Yea we can see that you are crazy don't worry. Where is the other half of the game ? Do you see something I don't ? There is no seasonal content yet. Zero.. nada.. nothing.

If you consider online features that dont work offline half a game I dunno what to tell you. That world wide trading, mtx shop and leaderboards don't work offline should be a given.

Wouldnt make sense otherwise.. so where is the content that is missing in offline ? Where?
Funny Mtx , Leaderboards have work offline. They just turn it off.

Dude you are just blaming them since they turned this game into GaaS. Sure.. I can see why some people hate it and just want another grim dawn.. not a huge fan of it either but that all these things are locked behind online is totally logical since this is unity.. everyone with half a brain and access to youtube could just hack everything in deleting the point of leaderboards, trading, economy and such.

Just think about it for an minute without getting emotional. It does perfect sense.

And no .. it might worked some ages ago but as long as I have the game .. these things didnt work offline. I know since online is broken for me.

Meaning its a poe league without the "harvest" "metamorph" or "ritual" mechanic its just a reset and Early Access 2.0.

I dont need to buy them ? I hate the current trend of mtx shops everywhere and purposely creating ♥♥♥♥ default equipment like in this one too but I don't need to be a drama queen about it every single time. It's a GaaS game now.

As long as I have fun with a game and they fix the stuff I need them to fix and don't want 70 euro/dollar for the standard version of the game.. I don't mind them wanting to make money with cosmetics.

I paid 120 euro for PoE since I liked it enough to support them. No big deal giving some company a lil bit more money and getting something back in return.

Unless they are blizzard. Fk em.

1, YES! Cycles are optional
2. YES you get the all the new stuff exept the competing on the leaderboards part wich i dont care at all about
3. Yes you can keep your character until the day when they add season only stuff when that happens you will need a seasonal character but that wont happen for a long time.

All this has clearly been stated by the developer in live streams so anyone saying anything else is just completely and utterly wrong.

heres the livestream with Darth Ghazzy and Mike from eleventh hour games.

Well well, if all dont want to buy it them, the company will close and you lose you´re game. This way of thinking is very clever. So why invest 3 years on it instead of creating a real game with a proper endgame?

1. Optinal is nothing becouse you only get Half a Game and in the Future even less.
2. Is allrdy wrong becouse Trade System dont work Offline, Skins ect dont work Offline, Ladder well have work offline but turn off so that you can go Online.
3. He dont want to keep his chr, he only want one chr to play everything.

LEGACY IS NOT OFFLINE you absolute tool and you get ALL of the game in legacy exept leaderboards. You have some serious issues with understanding simple truth and you abviously havent listened to a single word the developer has said. Now watch the video i linked and educate yourself before you make yourself look even dumber.

It takes ongoing revenue to continue to operate a business and pay employees and provide benefits to them and their families.

Of course they have to have a revenue model beyond one and done - else they'd need to move on to a new project entirely for the next one and done sale.

Well.. I dont really care about that 1.) I dont play these games for years coming anyway and 2.) this game has offline mode so it won't go anywhere. Servers might close at some point but I won't care about it. I just could play some offline character if I wanted to.

I play d3,4, poe, grim dawn and this one. If most of these games close down (obviously not grim dawn since it's p2p coop/solo offline) I won't care since I already have a lot of hours played. i'm satisfyed. I will have other games to play.

Titan Quest 2 and PoE will arrive at some point. D3 and 4 can burn in hell.. PoE mtx get transfered to poe 2 so everything good.

It's all not a big deal. This isn't a 100 dollar investment. It's a cheap indie game trying to make money to cover themselfs and servers for years coming.

It could close next year and I would just handwave it and forget about it within a couple of minutes.

Yeah, this is exactly the problem with games nowadays. This EXACT consoomer thought process is why games nowadays are consistently TRASH.

But at least you're an honest person that knows what you want instead of lying to yourself like half these other people.
