About Cycles
Hello all!

I’m very new to this genre of ARPG, and I’ve got a few questions regarding cycles! I’ve mainly been a traditional MMO player (Gw/Gw2, etc), so this is seasonal concept is all quite new to me.

I’m mostly curious about whether or I will lose progress on a character as the game progress. I read about "Cycles", but I'm still somewhat confused and have a few questions:

1. Are cycles optional?
2. Can I still participate in new content, if I don't partake in "Cycles"?
3. Can I continue to use one character throughout my time playing this game and not lose progress, like in other MMO/ARPGs?

If they mimic what PoE and Diablo do then each cycle usually has a gimmick and a new mechanic for fun, and to keep it fair everyone starts fresh so no one has an advantage

it's just that their reddit Q&A has me a little worried
(https://www.reddit.com/r/LastEpoch/comments/1al7m6c/last_epoch_faqs_for_newcomers/)

"Q: What is the difference between the permanent Legacy Cycle and temporary cycles?

A: Currently there is no difference, for a few cycles Legacy and temporary cycles will share the updates meaning new content can be played in both. This will not be the case at some point where new content will be temporary cycle exclusive. It should be noted, however, that the Legacy Cycle might get the new content at a later date."

Notably the last 2nd sentence ) :

Anywho, ty all for the info!

Yeah like for instance its what path of exile does. A cycle might have a new feature that impacts how the game plays It might only be in that cycle but if its liked then after the cycle ends it gets added to the legacy cycle in some form.

So you can ignore the cycles and just play on the legacy one and have 99% of the content. Although the new cycles are fun because the economy is usually much more vibrant as everyone isn't maxed with butt loads of gold. Everyone starts off fresh on equal footing.

So you will have almost all the content in legacy, and some new content you can play in the league cycles.

So if they say add a new char class its not going to be tied to cycle. If they add skills its not tied to cycles.

Cycles are optional. I believe the first multiple cycles, the only unique cycle content is leaderboards themselves. After each cycle all cycle characters get thrown into the forever available non cycle mode, you can make new characters there from the start if you want. In other arpgs and eventually in this one, cycles will have unique content that probably won't be available in the other mode. For most, a big part of arpg's is starting over occasionally with a new type of content that changes things.. there will always be a point where a characters gear and build is so developed that it is difficult to make it better

EVERY TIME, how are Cycles Optinal when they drain the money to make more Skins than to invest in the Game itself?

So there's a good chance I'd be unable to use my highly-geared character to play the new content, since they'd likely be in Legacy?

100% becouse with Offline Mode , Legacy, Garbage Chr you dont make more money. So they focuse only in one SEASONS/Circles. If they realese for both, no one will play Season/Circles. So they need to think how to FORCE people to Play Online. Thats why this System in the first place!

Yes, although new content may have an impact at lower levels and not just in the late game. Also, if they add permanent content that isn't cycle specific then it would be available there.

Please do not listen to midrak .. that dude has a screw loose somewhere.

As of it right now.. cycles are completely optional. Since there is zero content locked behind it besides the mtx shop which is logical since we could just hack in everything in offline if they wouldnt wall it off there, the trading merchant guild which enables trading between players and leaderboards ofc.

You can play offline mode and lose nothing. You just ofc can't use online features.

What they will do later down the line when actual seasonal content arrives 1-2 years later.. dunno. There will probably be some cycle only content just like all the other games.

But not yet.

Here you can read about it without listening to anyone here https://forum.lastepoch.com/t/last-epoch-1-0-patch-notes/62536

The patch notes are massive but you can easily just jump to the explaination of the cycles

This “optional” is driving me crazy. How is it optional if you get a half game? All innovations, investments and any phatasy go towards Circle/Season and Skins. If the game flops, you lose everything and get half a game. How is this optional? It's like in this system, it's work or die HOW IS THAT OPTIONAL?

Yea we can see that you are crazy don't worry. Where is the other half of the game ? Do you see something I don't ? There is no seasonal content yet. Zero.. nada.. nothing.

If you consider online features that dont work offline half a game I dunno what to tell you. That world wide trading, mtx shop and leaderboards don't work offline should be a given.

Wouldnt make sense otherwise.. so where is the content that is missing in offline ? Where?
