Last ARPG I remember that had fishing is Torchlight 2. The mechanic is fun and good, but it was not really worth the time investment.
You could also use dynamite for instant rewards at the loss of some loot.

There is fishing in PoE. Fishing Rods were introduced in 1.0.3, so about 10 years ago. Still exist, Watch out for the "Krillson, Master Fisherman" NPC the next time you play that game, to learn the ins and out. Fishing got it's last big update back in Crucible League! However increasingly fewer people fish these days, despite still being profitable. The playerbase that fish is so small, that it became a meme to pretend fishing is nothing but a easteregg.

They are wrong about fishing. There is no actual fishing in POE. It's a meme cuz theres a unique item that drops its a fishing rod.

GGG added it as an Easter egg cuz players were joking about an actual fishing mechanic. There is none.

It's a meme. There is no actual fishing mechanic in POE.

Edit looks like u maybe right had to look up that NPC name. Turns out there is fishing. That NPC is just has a very rare spawn window.

Always thought that name was a build u could do with the fishing rod
