Also, I should have included that drop chances are not altered in any way based on the mode you select.
So if there is no benefits only reason should be a play style? Like HC making it more exciting instead of playing as SSF? i played couple games and they were offering benefits like extra stat points or increased drop rates.normally it gives award when u risk something in general. i dont say it is bad but sound pointless for rookie - average gamers like me. I confused more now :/
If it is only playstyle not more. it will kinda make sense O__o
If you want to be able to share loot amongst all your characters without any additional challenges than you select Standard (SC), which is the default mode and the one most players will select. Standard characters have their stash, gold, and crafting materials shared amongst all similarly created SC characters.
If you want the additional challenge where death means the figurative end to that character than you select the Hardcore (HC) challenge. Hardcore characters have their stash, gold, and crafting materials shared amongst all similarly created HC characters.
If you prefer each character to be separate from one another, having its own isolated experience, than you select the Solo challenge. Solo characters each have their own stash, gold, and crafting materials that are separate from all other characters.
If you think the game is too easy and you desperately crave for a challenge than you select the Masochist challenge. You and your minions take twice as much damage, and deal half as much damage as normal in this mode.
Both the Solo & Masochist challenges can be abandoned within the Settings panel, but cannot be re-enabled.
Lastly, I should state that the game currently only offers an offline mode (though it does require a login) and all these characters are saved locally on your machine. So, some of these character options may change for the online mode when the game introduces server authoritative multiplayer in the forthcoming update, patch 0.9.
