Newb question about corruption

I am level 80, and doing the last triad of monoliths. I am not sure how to unlock the corruption system. I think I am missing something that is probably obvious, but not to me.

Is corruption part of the empowered timelines, and do I have to be level 100 to do any of this?

Corruption increases every time you kill a Shade of Orobyss. Regular monoliths start at 0 and can max out at 50. Empowered monos start at 100 (cant go lower) and have no limit.

There's no real level requirement to do any of this, just depends on how strong your character is.

If you look in the in-game guide you might find more answers there too.

You will need to keep working nodes (echoes) in each monolith to uncover the ones with the shade battle, I think the closet I have seen one from the starting node is 10-12 away. I have seen nodes worth 4-14 points of corruption in the normal monoliths. In the empowered ones there is a base point total + additional points based on one or more factors. One of these factors is how many times you have beaten the boss of that timeline, at least since the last reset.

Hm... Never encountered a Shade before. I gather the empowered ones start at level 100. Thanks for the info. I thought empowered = corruption
