There's two factions you run into around half-way or two-thirds of the way through the campaign. One focuses on player to player sales, the other is more of an SSF faction. Pick which one suits your playstyle. All characters you have in the season share your faction, so you don't have to faction grind multiple times.
There's probably been a significant number of performance upgrades since you last played. I don't know if it will actually have any end-user difference in your specific case, you'll have to determine that for yourself. I find myself playing with a constant 60FPS on a R5 3600 and an RX5500XT, but YMMV. I also play exclusively offline, so that might be a factor as well.
I don't know if it was available the last time you played, but there is a strict offline mode available if you don't want to listen to the toxic kids. And I mean an actual offline mode, you can play even if the servers are down.
There have probably been class and skill changes since you were last online. Better? Worse? That's for you to decide. All I'll state definitively is that there have been changes, and let you make any judgement calls for yourself.
Try it out now to get a feel for the differences from Release or wait for the season in April if you prefer. Or try something else like Grim Dawn, which is a completed game with DLC and another DLC coming out soon. PoE2 seems to be having 'teething troubles', as the industry calls them, PoE has confirmed no new season because the team got stripped out to work on PoE2, and D4... exists. Technically.
It really speaks to the genre's lackluster offers when I find myself playing D2 LOD as much as GD or Last Epoch.
I played it a little, i was building a rotation and looking into stacking cold damage on a primalist. Then i got this FPS drop to 23. Execpt, it was stuck at 23 and it wouldn't go back up. Is this a thing?
I also have a primalist cold/lightning damage build, using Maelstrom. I happen to enjoy it. Slowly transitioned to a more lightning focused build, using maelstrom mostly as a vehicle for more lightning. However, Avalanche is one of the 'meta' shaman builds right now according to the website so you're probably on to something.
In other news, i'll probably try something else on an offline game. How do i make a game on "true offline"?
Googled it. It's in Steam properties / general / launch options.
I was making a new character, a rogue. I was going for marksman, then i read some of the skills. There's a lot of targeted areas which i just can't use with a controller. I'll probably make a void knight instead.
