But yeah, you'd think someone looking at trends/player numbers would atleast do basic research before asking this kind of question. The response they want is quite literally in the most recent post on the damn store page...
The game will return to hibernation in a month. I've reached the empowered monoliths today and the endgame seems the same as before.
The biggest reason was that, while the Aberoth update (1.1) added a pinnacle boss to fight, it didn't fully touch on reworking/revitalizing the Monolith/echo system which was admittedly a bit stale.
The Devs took the feedback of what was lacking and instead of pumping out another season in 3-4 months, they sat and cooked Season 2 chocked-full of content for 8 months to make sure they got the feedback right.
This was easily the smoothest Season launch I've experienced across any ARPG ever, so it goes to show they poured a lot of love into this Season.
When they're as lazy as they are stupid, this is the best we're getting.
