As much as I love Poe, I find the gameplay itself more satisfying in Last Epoch. Builds just feel better and more rewarding, and they are more fun to actually make since the core of the game isn't gated behind an archaic trade system, or content and drop rates too punishing for 90% of the playerbase :p
I love Path of Exile for the challenge. I like that it is tough and punishing, and I love the insane loot drops, fun league mechanics and how you can really customise your own gameplay with the Atlas Tree and freedom with the skill tree. The only thing I truly dislike about Poe is the trade system, which is not only outdated, but the devs refuse to fix it. Poe 1 is also very clunky with its limited control scheme. Poe 2 fixes this.
Diablo 4... I can see why some like it, it is probably the easiest of the bunch to get into and digest, but compared to pretty much any other ARPG I find it very lacking. I genuinely think Diablo 3 is better. Something just feels off about it to me, like its lacking player creativity and variety content. But if those are not something you value then it could be fun.
I also want to mention Grim Dawn as being probably the best ARPG that isn't based on seasonal content. It is just good. Builds are fun and varied, it is capable of challenging you, it is very fun in co-op, and it doesn't rely on bothersome trading, and it has plenty of content.
The fact that you pretty much NEED to trade in PoE 2 to actually get to high end content is a deal killer for me, i was planning to buy it next month but i'm more thinking of taking LE now.
D4 can't decide what it wants to do for endgame from season to season.
POE2 has a mountain of flaws and the devs seem to be intent on keeping those flaws instead of making the game better.
LE seems to be focused on making a fun experience instead of trying to retain players (which is what inherently retains players)
dont expect more then one big update per year.
Yes, I tried POE2 last week, and although the game is revolutionary in many aspects and a hundred steps ahead of LE and D4, it's not a loot-collecting game, it's a damn economic simulator. I haven't received a single usefull item for my class in 100 hours!!! I just can't accept it.
P.S. And craft can only be described as: random + random * random
the current best arpg is pd2 or d2r w/ mods, then poe1, then grim dawn, then d4, then last epoch. poe2 doesn't even deserve to be in the discussion because it's a complete disrespect to everyone's time. if last epoch ever fixes their floaty gameplay feel & combat, they will be better than d4.
But for poe2, current season2 is actually meh if you are going to play softcore that is. If you want to play an arpg right now, I think it's best you play poe2 HC. I think I will start doing that as well, softcore ain't it this season. Market is dead, you won't be selling any item unless you drop the price by 50-60%.
It's better to play HC and do everything in the game, play slowly, make sure you gear up, I believe market is more alive in HC than softcore as well. Also any loot you get are more valuable in HC so that's more fun.
LE has multiple systems for target farming too. If you like SSF, it's a really good game to do it in without feeling like you're at the mercy of RNG. There's a faction dedicated to it that you progress and complete objectives for naturally. This season they added the equivalent to POE's atlas tree, basically points you spend to buff features of the game like spawn rates of rare things, and drop rates of specific item types/rarity that you choose.
