I am going to guess when the servers come up.

Thats one clever way to avoid Login-Overload...just buffer the ppl via Download

That's how it should have always been done, for every game. No company is going to spend the necessary amount to make servers work Day 1. It costs A LOT to handle it.

Also... I suspect we will have NO server issues because there's not going to be that many people. The game isn't that good.

Do you really have ambitions that high that those "few hours" really matter that much for you? Unless you really want to fight for the top ladder positions, I honestly think you're a little to salty here.

The problem is that because of this my friend needs to wait for me even though he could already play, just because we want to play together. And I kind of dislike inconveniencing my friends. If it would just be me it wouldn't be as much of a problem.

Allright, I got where you're coming from. Still, unless your friends have those mentioned sky-high ambitions, it shouldn't be a that big deal to agree on starting on 6PM in stead of 4PM to ensure everyone has the patch until then. That may not be optimal, but it's still a lot better then sitting in front of the pc and waiting for someone else to get the download done.
