Maybe some day a new class as a DLC but I'd be shocked if that happened. The game is great, but has a host of issues that they need to address first.
I agree, I doubt it would happen any time soon, but if you have any ideas that might be fun to think about.
While I don't know for sure if this is correct, if it is - yea not happening. I don't know what they have going on on the back-end but re-animating everything that's already in-game is not something they should focus on. If it something that is needed for not having gender-locked classes I'd prefer them not bother with it at least not until they have a better turn around on addressing bugs and content.
So about that, seems EHG hired a new animation lead and tasked them with "auditing all animations starting with player animations."
Seems like a two birds one stone but this is EHG so I expect them to simply work on existing ones.
The developers have spoke at length about this, the short answer is yes it is on their to do list. Yes both removing the gender lock and adding in character customization beyond gender. Having said that it is low on their priority.
If the history of EHG is anything to go by expect this feature to get queue jumped by several more "hard no" features before it arrives.
As for classes, I think we all want more content, but it's clear that EHG's current focus is bringing existing classes up to standard, starting with Sentinel. What sort of fantasy archetype do you like playing that isn't served by the current classes?
They already are creating new character animations.
Moxjet200 (judd ) on reddit said theh recently hired a new animator. And there first task is to work on new character animations. And that we wouldn't see there work in season 2
Whether this turns into no gender lock or even character customization is another story.
No, they really wouldn't. It doesn't matter how they did the current animations, having them run on a different model with a similar skeleton would be fairly trivial to do. They'd likely only do new running/idle animations. This would just mean the alternate class appearances would have a similar skeleton proportion, but that's fine, most of the body shape shouldn't be tied to the skeleton just like IRL. Better animation practices would allow for skeleton morphing while maintaining animation quality.
The larger task would be adapting all the body armor because of how they did class specific armor.
Apples and oranges. PoE classes are essentially just stat bonuses, which can largely be obtained other ways. The difference between playing a fireball casting elementalist and a fireball casting chieftain is largely which type of gear you need to focus on more to cover the stat variance. In PoE if you want to cast Fireball there's literally a viable option with every single class, you can pick which one to play off visual preference or based on their passive bonuses.
With Last Epoch if you want to cast Fireball you need to play an old man, there's no other option currently. This is a problem.
Gender locking is devs (or the publisher) being a cheap ass, to save money in development. This is hardly a MMO, even though you can play with other players (good luck with that buggy ♥♥♥♥). In a single player game, it matters not.
Frankly, I think people should have choices. Mass Effect, an old single player game, had more choices than this game lol; and it still looks good. But it's a totally different type of game with a different engine. Though I doubt that has much to do with it.
As a hobbyist, I would imagine creating such a avatar creation system would be difficult without the proper talent. And I don't think there was much talent, on the engineering side, that went into this game. Love the art though.
My opinion in turn is that I've never felt like customizing my character significantly increases my immersion in a game; for me, the most immersive games that aren't survival or horror games are ones like the Arkham or Witcher series where I control a preexisting character with a well-established personality; assuming, of course, it's done well (looking at you, AssCreed).
Even voicing all the dialogue in the game with a custom character doesn't always help; case in point, Fallout 4, where even though the Sole Survivor had full voice acting for both genders and a wide variety of dialogue choices, I often found myself yanked out of roleplaying when the actual spoken line was far more aggressive, submissive, or sarcastic than the textbox suggested.
