What to do with Captains ring?

i noticed that this item is always there after the first time you time travel. Is there a quest related to this?

Nothing that I know of yet, but I've certainly always been curious of that ring.

Even more curious is the Whispering Key[forum.lastepoch.com] that may be there for a future purpose, or a purpose that has yet to be found.

Also there is an area in the ancient era that has a locked portal and is unnamed, it does not appear on the map but is clearly going to be something important at some point.
