New season & Planning to buy the game

So my question is, if I buy the game now and played a character and reached mid game and then the new patch/season dropped... do I have to buy the new expansion/season? Do I have to create another character for the new season/patch? What would happen to the character I leveled before patch?

Everything you need is in the base game, the only thing you have to pay for is the MTX / supporter packs if you want to. If you roll a seasonal character, those characters are moved to Legacy when the season ends. You can just roll characters straight into Legacy mode since there is no season-exclusive content at the moment.

I think I get it, so if I buy the game now and played a character... that character will drop to legacy since a new season (april 17) will drop.

So it's better If I just wait for april 17 before I buy and play the game so my first character would be on the new seasonal server, right?

This is what I was going to ask too (about expansions). The other question I wonder is am I gonna need to buy extra stash tabs (similar to PoE) if I get to endgame?
Also how long do seasons last in this game in general?

Yes, if you want to keep it seasonal but at the moment there really is no reason to do so: everything a seasonal character gets is currently available to legacy characters.

Stash tabs are bought with in-game gold (the currency of the game, not real money). The only thing apart from the main game that you need to spend money on are the optional MTX-packs.
I honestly can't remember how long the seasons are since I exclusively play Legacy characters.

I was in this position the other day and caved. Getting familiar with the leveling has certainly been a fun experience, so you could realistically do either, whatever youre feeling.

No extra purchases are necessary unless you want skins, no transmog system yet (tbd from the devs). And stash space is purchased with in game gold, no $ to get extra stash, up to 200 stash spaces.

EHG wants to do 3-4 months until new season comes out. the last one was roughly 1 year but they try to get it more consistent from now on
