TERRIBLE performance
wanted to check back after a year before S2 release. my rig's completely the same rig that i used a year ago. even in medium quality 1440p i can't get over 14-15fps. anywhere.
fullscreen, windowed fullscreen, quality (1440p 1080p) nothing matters. the game runs terribly.
i'm open to your suggestions but i'm dismayed at how poorly the game runs. i see no reason for that. my S2 anticipation is ruined.
thanks for any tips.
i5 7600k gtx1080 16gram win10. game and os on ssd.
edi:i fixed it. my own problem indeed.
i had used launch option -force-d3d12, removing that now LE flies again 60fps.

Maybe tell us your system specs. You might be running some integrated GPU on a 486 for all we know.

Running on the same specs from 2 years ago that couldn't run it then isn't going to magically make it run now.

R9 5900x and 3080TI runs this at 100 FPS just fine at 1440p

1440p main screen. tried 1080p as well.

Lower your graphics details and wait for Season 2.

i said that in my OP. by default Medium was running well last year. this time 14fps. nowadays even on the lowest of low settings 1080p i can't cross 14-15fps.

I mean, in fairness, you are running 8-9 year old hardware. What kind of performance were you getting when you played?

You're already running on a very old hardware and it won't get any better as the years march on. Check for the latest drivers, clean your fans etc. Parts don't last forever :(

i was playing smooth 60fps for absolute majority of the 200hrs. i know it's 8yo rig. KCD2 runs VERY well on my system. that's an open world RPG in cryengine. 1440p i can run on medium quality stable 60fps. surely we won't argue that open world in cryengine is somehow less demanding than an arpg, are we?
as i said, a year ago there were NO such performance issues. i only need to boot to menu and see the low fps. at End of Time or in Monos, it don't matter. 15fps tops no more.

RTX5080 / 9950x
started getting fps drops since game speed increased towards the end of the campaign

Not trying to argue that your rig can't run modern games, im simply saying, performance doesn't degrade that much over time, especially if you were getting stable 60 a year ago. Unless this game does some shader caching and your cache is full? When's the last time you clean installed the latest driver for your card?

ARPGS do have an issue where mob speed, density, and all the effects do have fps degredation while in mid-end game. Nature of the beast, but just loading up and you have a -45 FPS delta doesn't just come from a game loading up at a different point in time.

If you are honest about running KCD2 on medium 60fps 1440p on that old of a rig, then my god the devs on KCD2 must've worked miracles on their optimization.

1440p is by default taxing compared to 1080, but the fact that you have the same FPS regardless of 1440 or 1080 tells me something else is wrong. And not with the game :P
Old hardware is finnicky my dude, sorry to tell you.

I can tell you that LE even on max barely stresses my system at 1080. But I am also running a rig from last year with some of the best components for gaming on the market atm. So not really anything I can compare to. I've never had poor performance in LE tho. It has always run smooth. And this is the third computer I run it on.

Season 2 should also get a new Unity engine/upgrade so wait for that. Comparing an old engine (and let's be fair, Last Epoch engine is not exactly the best there is) to a new one isn't fair since they are two completely different ones.

i don't clean install gpu drivers. once or twice a year i update to latest stable release. currently 572.47
never had issues in other games with shaders. i do play other unity games, or games that precompile shaders. if shaders need to be remade, the game does it. i just verified LE instal, all fine verified no file error no redownload. windows 10 up-to-date.
no clear reason for such drastic drop in performance.
