HATE the shield on bosses!
Can you at least remove it our lower levels, or only have 1 shield rather than mulitple?

I dont have any huge opionion on it yet.
I just know I killed the abomination 3 or 4 times as faster than before with the build i tried today in empowered monos, so it seems like a big nerf to the monolith bosses.

And it wasnt a big hitter build.. it was an ignite spellblade.

Also, the boss loot is still as egregious as it was before! Surely you could augment the drops, with the added shields!

I dont know, I only killed abomination and the harbinger that spawned after i killed it.. and it dropped two LP1 woven flesh.. plus a bunch of other stuff.

I think its too early to say anything about the loot until you have maxed out CoF.. if you are running that. And until you have played a bit more than just a few hours.

So are you saying that the shields make the boss encounters easier? I haven't made it that far into my new game for the cycle so I don't have much info on the changes that shields make on the game.

I just did one boss, so its too early to say, but it seemed to die very quickly. The harbinger that spawned after was harder to kill but mostly because it was spamming aoe so i had a hard time using all skills to apply ignite stacks.

the shield is basically a hard low effort mechanic to prevent bosses from getting oneshotted. Early on it doesn't matter but for ubers it might make a difference.

Still very bad designed indeed.

But well all developers these days lack inspiration, it gets worse every year

So what would be your suggestion to prevent bosses from being one-shot?

For an extremely high DPS build that was already nuking them into the ground with minimal effort, with the ward phases it's probably going to go faster than with the old damage reduction mechanics. For lower DPS builds or early game it definitely feels slower/worse and you are encouraged to just stop hitting the boss and run around while the ward degens because attacking it doesn't make it go down much faster and puts you at more risk of getting hit by attacks. Like why stand next to a boss and melee it to get through ward slightly faster, when you can roll away and run around the edge of the arena safely while the ward degens on its own. The mechanic encourages degenerate play and is really poorly thought out and designed.

Why is that even a concern or something that would need to be prevented? If you are one-shotting a boss then it's trivial content and you are likely well beyond the point it should be a challenge. If people are one-shotting pinnacle content then the game is poorly balanced and certain skills or mechanics are in need of tuning. There is no situation where a dev should be trying to prevent one-shots or slowing down boss fights with a system like this in a game like this.

read patch notes. the "Shields" are a complete replacement for invulnerable phases... so rather than being untargetable you can now actually deal damage/hit them. to trigger effects such as leeching. and if you have enough dps you will actually take em out much faster than before this patch

They are a replacement for DDR, and designed to force you to experience the boss fight "mechanics".

I love it. Easier to understand when a boss fight changes phases. Love to watch the ward go down faster than the HP. Satisfaction.
