Last Epoch

No graphical and/or animation polish before release?
I don't even know how long ago I got this game, but it doesn't look any different. Animations still feel stiff. People don't like D4, but if this is the alternative? You'll get some initial sales and the player base will quickly fizzle out. It looks like a PS2 game. The only reason I downloaded it again was because over on the D4 forums everyone was hyping this game up.

I'm sorry, the presentation goes a long way. That's just the reality of gamer expectations. This would have been fine 20 years ago. Not so much today.

In an ARPG no less.

Lost Ark is that way, buddy.

I'm all for good game play, but when the graphics are so bad and the animations are so stiff it really takes the player out of the immersion. Especially when said aspects look and feel 20 years dated.

Stylize it. Give it the 'chunky' graphics that games like Immortals Fenyx Rising use. Very low poly count models and environments, but they still look good. If that's not really viable then do 2.5D pixel art. Anything is better than looking like it came out two decades ago.

The animations are rigid. They're not as bad as say D1 or D2, but they're definitely not better than D3 or even Torchlight 1.

Let's be honest, everyone cares about graphics or you'd be playing old school text-based RPGs.

Not necessarily. I mean, I still like text-based RPGs when I'm bored and I still play games like Stardew Valley with their pixelated style.

To me, gameplay is everything. Graphics are just bonus.

Return of Obra Dinn is one of the best games I've ever played, but you probably never heard of it, considering...

The graphical update is in the 1.0 release....

You're more than welcome to try remake the game in the unreal 5 engine..

I don't think you played games 20 years ago if this is your take on what games looked like back then. The graphics serves its purpose and I doubt they will update ALL models - they might update some textures but I believe this is what we get and it looks perfectly fine.

I find it so difficult to take people seriously when they talk about immersion in a game where the camera is flying above the player character. What are you immersing yourself as? A helicopter.

Similarly, I can't understand the sheer hatred some people have for Last Epoch's graphics. Like, it looks perfectly fine to me, certainly better than all other existing ARPG's except for Diablo 4 and maybe Wolcen (say what you will about the polish, but its graphics were amazing). Yet people keep acting like Last Epoch is a refugee from the N64 era.

Yeah, I've seen people unironically say they look like PS2 graphics. Did these people play the PS2 era and I mean with a real PS2, not an emulator. People get real crazy when they just want to bash something.

*Edit - Oh, the person comparing it to a PS2 is the OP lol

I have a assumption that every time a person says "Game X looks like PS2", they're younger than the PS2; I would even say they're younger than the PS3!
Because they've obviously never seen PS2 games if they think the games look like it

How does this response address anything at all? So, I'm welcome to become president if I don't like Biden? I'm welcome to eat steak if I don't like hamburgers? How does one make the other even possible? I have to be an Unreal 5 expert because I criticized graphics? Steam forums are as entertaining as they are so often confusing.
