Also I can then draw comparisons between the two games which should be interesting.
If LE grows to have the content of GD then it's a no brainer, it has to go in my collection for sure.
In the past whenever I have asked the forums which game out of two should I buy, it's always been around 50/50. I think this must be the first time I have had one come out on top so clearly.
Do whatever sounds better to you.
Last Epoch is a solid game but there are a lot of issues.
The developers should really focus on fixing bugs and performance (for some people) yet they seemingly refuse or are unable to do so.
End-game content that is available at the moment is faily solid. Monolith is a refined map system with interesting mechanics but it will get old quite fast.
Dungeons are kinda okay but people only run one of them for the most part (Temporal Sanctum) because the other two are far less interesting / rewarding.
Arena is not an end-game system in my opinion but that's just me.
Now that sounds solid right ? They just need to fix a few bugs here and there and make more content and it's going to be great... well not quite. The game has been in early access for many years and i have played it for around 5 years during this period. The time spent on reworking systems was way too much and i think they miss managed resources a bit. The results are okay for what we have right now but the time it took was insane.
The game is not even finished in terms of main story. A lot Items (most of unique items in fact) are still missing 3D models. The in-game trading economy is non existent.
Overall i think that grinding in Last Epoch gets boring way too quickly and making new characters is not as much fun as it is in Grim Dawn.
Now i am biased towards Grim Dawn since it is probably my 2nd favourite game of all time (1st being Diablo 2) but i would stay away from Last Epoch right now and just kinda watch from the sidelines to see what happens. There is no need to rush into this game and i would suggest waiting for season 2 to start so we can see what kind of content we are going to get.
Edit: Another weird thing in LE is the microtransactions. You can purchase skins that are not usable in offline mode. In fact there is no transmog system in the game at this moment (someting that Grim Dawn added later on). And most of these skins are pretty expensive - 10 Euro for flaming shield, up to25 Euro for armor set, 10-25 Euro for pets. And there are so many additional slots in the appearance menu like: pet effects, steps effects and skill effects (none of these are implemented in the store yet)
Meanwhile Grim Dawn (which is an offline game so yes it is different from live-service) offers you plenty of cool gear with visual effects (like fiery shield or blood dripping sword) that are obtainable in the game and if you want to support the developers you can buy a supporter pack. These packs contain mutliple armor sets with weapons and pets for like 8 Euro.
Off topic: There is a new game called No rest for the wicked (also made with unity engine like Last Epoch) and it has been released to early access like 6 days ago. The developers have already dropped 5 major hotfix patches that improved quality of life, performance and fixed bugs. Something that took Last Epoch multiple years and is still not done.
Yeah, 'No rest for the wicked' I'm not interested in any PC game that doesn't fully support the PC such as keyboard and mouse and such. In my eyes it's not compatible with my machine.
If they want to sell me a PC game then a PC game it should be and not a console hybrid.
This is another problem, sometimes we give game developers to much slack which in turn makes them lazy.
I just wanted to compare the similarity on the engine use and how quick can some developers be. As a side note they are already working on the keybinds problem.
But yes it is peculiar how can you release a game without such basic feature and graphical settings (the game has only presents not individual setting for shadows, textures etc.) And i'm definetly not trying to sell the game to anyone as i do not recommend purchasing it at this point in time.
