Advice on building a loot filter?
I'm around level 45 and still working out exactly what I want to do with my build, but I'm getting some foundational skills in place and trying to raise resistances and damage for the skills I know I'm keeping.

Just wondering how people start building their loot filters? I'm trying to trim down the junk I'm looking at just a bit, while not narrowing down to a few attributes and stats. For example, I'd like to hide gear that is 10 levels below my character, and only want to see rare and up with resistance stats, dexterity, fire damage and some other things. How would I go about getting this base started for my filter?

I've played with it a bit but it seems I'm not understanding how the rules I've set work with/against each other in the priority list. Seems to hide everything.

I'm playing a necro minion build so mine is very simple at the moment, i have it set to hide all normal/magic/rare items, then above that i have it recolor anything with the word "minion" in it (the higher things on the list take priority and override things below it), and then i also have it recolor anything with a high enough tier of armor/resistance as well. So far it's working great for me, but a bunch of the people i play with decided to just download loot filters from random build guide sites, so that is also an option if you don't have the time to create one yourself.

Currently level 50-ish. I have:

Recolor all items with at least one 5+ tier affix (to get the most out of shatter which I then use depending on the affix)
Show all uniques/exalted/sets
Show all idols
Hide all common items
Hide all items with level less than 40 (which I raise by 10 or so every 10 or so levels)

I think it needs some improvement and finetuning, especially later in the game when T5+ items get more common, but the basic idea stands afaic.

As for your problem: Conditions set higher in the list override the lower ones. You might not see items because your "hide" conditions are above your "show" or "recolor" conditions. You can always drag and drop them up and down the list to fit your parameters.

I'm level 53, I just set it to hide white items for now.

Go to max roll and copy one of their loot filters. That way you can see how to build a proper one so you can do one yourself to suit your needs

What I ran since the beginning is all whites and blues don't show. After getting to the end game you're forced to hide all rare/yellow as well.

Sadly the game drops you so much trash that unless you know exactly what item or specs you are looking for in each slot and hide everything else you will be so frustrated you will stop picking up anything.

The loot system is sadly EXTREMELY underwhelming, arguably the worst for any ARPG I can recall playing in the last 15 years. Look up a build, look up BIS gear and rolls, filter everything that doesn't have those rolls. It will take you 2 hours to build those filters but maybe then the loot system doesn't feel awful.

I highly recommend building your own filter and not relying on premade filters. I have used premade loot filters from maxroll and most of the ones sucked and made me lose out on some import gear items for my build . When leveling up you need to be able to customize your filter as you progress for your needs. Its pretty simple easy to build...first rule hide everything and then start adding in rules to show what you want to see based on the items types and affixes your need. Lastly add in a rule to show all Unique and Set Items. For the exalted items I only show affixes that I can use on my build. Check out 'Action RPG' YT channel, he as some good videos on loot filters.
