Steam deck/Controller Support ?
Is this game playable on a Steam deck ?

Yes, it is fully playable with controller support.
I recommend switching the sound from PulseAudio Output to ACP/ACP3X/ACP6x Audio Coprocessor Speaker. This will give you a much more detailed audio output. Another thing is that when the GFX is at full power, there is occasional crackling sound. You can prevent this by setting the Manual GPU Clock to 1500 MHz in the Performance tab of the Steam Deck settings.

Any feedback on the "full controller support" mentioned in the patch notes? Can you truly play this game without mouse and keyboard now without spending 20 minutes on your inventory or skill menu after every short session?

How well does it compare against D4 and Poe?
Will have to report back on usability once I get more time with it than just the initial few moments but it definitely is already a step up.

Have you found a way to play ranged characters? I can't for the life of me figure out how you're supposed to aim. There's an auto-target thing but it targets in the direction you're moving so if you want to move anywhere away from the enemy, you're going to fire backwards as well. Anything but pure melee is basically unplayable for me.

Thanks, I'd appreciate your feedback, definitely take your time!
So, after having gotten to the first town, I can say there are some parts of the controls that are a little less refined than I'd like and some inputs that I don't like. Steam Deck suffers less here.

Some oddities is that dpad in the skills menu works like the RB and LB. You have to use the analog stick to move along those skills. You also have to hold down the back/menu button to pull upen a radial wheel, navigate it with the right stick, then let go of the back/menu button to confirm selection. Also seemingly can't assign controls to anything but the controls they granted to controllers. IE you can edit what button is used for Skill 4 but not for Open Inventory since that's not an assigned input by default.

I can't speak for how it compares to POE but D4 controlled easier for me when on a controller.

If using Steam Deck, I'd recommend having right and/or left Trackpad as mouse with press in being a left mouse click. Maybe assign some back buttons to being quick-accesses. With that, you should be good to go. It is serviceable without doing anything of that, it's just slow moving the dpad cursor one block at a time in menus and stuff. The mouse makes it easier.

Again, I think it'll do by default, with some quirks. It'll work better if you are playing on Deck but regular controller will work, if taking a little longer to get doing things.

Unfortunately, run, turn, attack, repeat to enemy death is the only answer I've found so far. They've tightened up the turn-input attacking a little but yeah, there's not some dual-stick move+aiming from what I can tell. Not sure if that's even a thing with K+M

had that since the last update 6 month ago and its still not fixed.
Haven't been able to even play Grey's out enter game button and indefinitely loading when making new character also tried every version of Proton and multiple versions of ge plus betas of experimental and nothing fixes it
thats strange, works fine for me (aside from the bit blurry text).
proton experimental and native linux version work.
normal steam deck with cryo utilities but played older patches without it.

only issue i had in older versions where constant crashes every hour or so, with a full reboot.

as far as i know its playable on the steam deck. But the controller button assignments are terrible and i cant figure out how to remap them all. some will remap and some wont it very bizarre

When this happens (not just in Last Epoch) Instead of using the ingame remapping, use the Steam OS level controller remapping.

Damn, that doesn't sound good.

What does the right stick do by the way?

Right Stick can be used as a pseudo-mouse but I'm not fond of it. If you're used to similar via Destiny or No Man's Sky, it might be ok but I prefer it on the left stick which isn't possible because that's to move since the game doesn't pause...

Man that's a real bummer. Right stick should be for aiming, twin stick shooter style. I hope they'll update that or make it configurable.

I guess you also can't change this via Steam's controller mapping thing.

While you might be able to, I imagine it'd also swap your move stick to the right one which is also a no-go imo. Sorry :(

Messing around even more (and paying attention now), I've noticed there are quick prompts. Instead of clicking an item in your inventory to scoot it up to your equip screen, to then move to the correct equip slot, there is just a "Press _ to Equip" prompt. Same to move to stash. So there are some easier bits. Still some rough spots. I'm finding it easy-ish to get a hand of, even my most annoying radial wheel pull-up thing.
