Last Epoch

Why did they release this game with an unfinished campaign?
I was about to buy this game but my friends quickly recommended against it and told me that the main storyline campaign is unfinished. I was shocked to hear this. My question is why? I have played lots of ARPGS since 2002 like Grim Dawn, Diablo, Titan quest, Dungeon siege, Torchlight, Sacred, etc and each and every one of those ARPG games launch with a finished campaign and adding expansions 1 or 2 years later. So why Last Epoch launched with an unfinished initial campaign? Why did they betray the ARPG fanbase like this?

Why? time after going 4 years past the 1.0 release date everything becomes "arbitrary" according to the developer mike. Well that and the average user does not understand the difference between delivering on the promoted story, continuing the story, a sequel to the story, and an evolving story.

Given it could be years until seasonal content arrives, again according to the developer mike, and the "bump" in engagement LE got the last time the story was expanded, I think its also a bit of marketing. Replace the season draw with the story draw to lessen the impact of not having seasonal content.

I am glad that I got this information before buying the game.
the games amazing. its your loss if you dont try it. lots of potential and a working end game system at launch that blows d4s launch end game away. and a much better crafting system

last epoch has maybe the most boring endgame in any arpg
same problem as d4, its just pure boredom after level 70-80.

I may be misremembering because it's been some time, but if I recall correctly PoE did not release with its full campaign. It definitely didn't release with all the campaign it currently has now; that I can say for certain.
From my memory, it released with Act 4 and the 3 difficulties (Normal, Cruel, and Merciless). In a later patch it later added more acts. I think at the time it felt "complete" but there's arguments to be had on people loving the new acts and those who preferred it before.

idk, i havent found myself being bored yet. d4 it was quick for me to be bored tho. might just be different strokes for different folks. game has atleast as much end game as POE had when it launched

Never... aside from this little known indie title I played back in the day that ended on a massive cliffhanger. It's cool, you're not an idiot or anything; I know you probably never heard of it, it slipped under most people's radar.

It was called Diablo 2.
Diablo 2 have by the time the story Blizzard intended. This one is by the devs own admission incomplete.

Why are defending an ARPG game with an unfinished campaign?

I'll bait.

Because this isn't a story-driven ARPG, it's a sandbox, where you supposed to experiment after getting past the campaign. Leveling process here is just a tutorial to let you get used for the class, and story is a plaster on top of it. It doesn't really matter for the longevity of the game to have a finished campaign.
This applies to all those other arpgs op cited.

I think its a legit question. I got this since EA released and now playing it and enjoying it alot, but I also had this question. Released but not finished the campaign?

PoE or even the ages old D2 have exciting things that can drop at every stage in the game.
Last Epoch has the same problem as D4, after Level 70-80 your done and nothing changes.

While this has never been stated as the reason, i think that the ♥♥♥♥ pulled by Unity last year is the most likely answer. They are trying to avoid future issues. On the bright side, this means that there is a 1.0 out. Because i doubt EHG would have bothered otherwise.

Money. It's that simple. An unfinished campaign won't prevent people from playing as long as the important stuff is in good shape. Most people don't care about it in an ARPG anyway. Also there is Tencent.

Why are they forcing it down our throats instead of letting us skip it and jump right into the sandbox ?
You can skip it if you want after you arrive to chapter 2 and visit end times for the first time. Then you already have access to the endgame but don't have any idea why you are doing what you are doing. The rest of the game is basically to introduce you to this endgame.
I've finished all of the campaign in 0.7 which is way past chapter 2 but didn't have a 'skip campaign' button on the character creation screen when I returned to the game on release day.
If the story is indeed complete and that's all there is to it I really can't be arsed to play it again.
And again, and again with every single new char - not even just to chapter 2. It's not so good that I'd want to.
Plus you know what's what and how you got there after you've finished it once. And even if you didn't - it's an ARPG - you press keys and buttons to delete stuff from your screen in exchange for skill upgrades and items.

Odd comment to make when on the Titan Quest Anniversary Edition forum you wrote the following regarding that game.

Implying you had played Last Epoch while oddly defending Diablo IV on this thread.
