Your damage comes from spells with some meele asistance
Its is not broken,
Totems + meele is viable. You will realize however that totems deal fars more damage than your meele. And vs bosses it can be dangerous to meele with the shaman if you are not very defensiv equiped.
The shaman needs an update. I mean it's fine just don't expect to push as far as some other classes
also have a fire tornado shaman but he's been pretty underwhelming so far.
personally if I made a melee shaman i would focus heavily on the melee part and only use totems for support. although since attunement would help both melee storm skills and storm totem it might still make for a good trash killer if you prioritize attunement on your gear

Good and safe so far, except for enemies that focus on the player (like those naga assassins). I have a unique ring that creates a dummy that enemies focus on, and I just run away and let my minions do the work (staying "fairly" close to my cure/thorn totems, on the outside edge of the combat situation.)
