Is there a point on using tier over T6 gear?

As far as I see tier set and uniques are not on the same level with a good T6 gear

what the opinion in general?
should they add the option on have forge potential on tier gear?

Am I missing something here?

uniques eventually will drop with legendary potential and you can add the affixes of an exalted item onto a unique. most base uniques are useless until you find one with a high legendary potential
