If you want to start talking about real ARPGs at least mention Grim Dawn and Parh of Exile.
If you meant Diablo 2 in 2024 where you have to chew 100 stamina potions just to run from one side of the map to the other, not so much
If you meant Diablo 3 when it was at its best seasons, sure
If you meant Diablo 3 when it was on life support for 20 years, terminally neglected by a company that didn't care and fired anyone who could fix it and harvested the rest to World of Warcraft to turn characters into bowls of fruit, not so much
If you meant the first 1/2 of the campaign of Diablo 4 where you had the 'new AAA game feeling' and were wondering where the story was going to go and which big bosses you would fight and when you would see Diablo - sure
If you meant anything after the first 1/2 when it was so very evident the game was a very well put together cash shop, with Diablo Immortal pricing, wrapped by a very shallow call of duty Diablo game that was purposefully made to waste your time with stupid loot and stupid NM dungeons and helltides that could cure insomnia - not so much
Last Epoch is like Grim Dawn, a fantastic addition to ARPG's that everyone should own and be playing
So you consider Last Epoch to be worth 10 dollars, but Diablo 4 is worth 100 to you?
Seriously?
....Seriously?
I could not agree more. Also Grim Dawn is certainly a game which deserves more attention within the genre. I wonder how a multiplayer Grim Dawn would look and feel like.
Taking your detailed insights into consideration, I am quite interested to know how you would rank Lost Ark, that is if ignoring all the microtransactions stuff.
Well if we put Online aside, and can accept the not so pungent Artstyle,we could also include Slormancer and Chronicon, both Great ARPGs at what they do.
Another pretty good one would be Warhammer 40.000 Inquistor, specially if you like a brick-ton of dialogue xD
Anyways, wouldn't put Lost Ark in the Mix, mainly because it misses one thing that makes ARPG's Fun: Itemisation.
Lost Ark feels like a Remix-Game, that just takes stuff that worked well in other Games and put them into one, without the regard of why the Parts were good in other Games.
From the little we Remember Itemisation is just Powerlevel-Creep like most MMO's do, with the same weekly restrictions and such.
ARPGs have an abundance of Rarities, and even more crap Items, that you can build your Character around with how you like, and especially with rare or in Last Epochs Case Exalted crafting, as well as Legendaries, they also fill the gambling itch most people have. Something D3 also falls flat with, since you mostly just hunt for the same set with better rolls, since everything below set/unique is just Material for the Smithy.
The "Raids" or what they called them while decently fun with the right people were just a Budget Monster Hunter, and fall flat in comparison since it's 2D Movement.
So the only thing in Lost Ark reminicent of ARPGs is the Gameplay. (and might be wrong but even the skills might have felt a bit MMO-ish)
Last Epoch has great Bones, that we hope they build upon after finally getting rid of all the Server Problems, the Pricetag of ~35 Bucks is more than fair for what you get.
And yes can't wait for the new Grim Dawn Expansion, go play ARPGs <3
Lost Ark unfortunately was completely gutted in its western release version, making it never achieve its potential
It is limited by its '1 person dies we all die' raid mechanics which made the community extremely gate keeping and asking for more item level then the raid even drops (because no-one wants to waste their time trying and trying again to fail for nothing)
The Korean grind was promised to be toned down in the western version but it remained. Nothing sucked more than doing all your weeklies, trying to upgrade and failing and feeling completely burnt out as if your time was wasted
The combat was amazing!
The combos were amazing!
The Korean version of the game's outfits looked amazing (the censored western release was... such a let down in comparison)
The feeling of fighting bosses the first few times where you could counter/knock them down felt really good
Too much of Lost Ark's focus was put on making it an MMO, it would've been sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better as an ARPG that was not trying to milk its playerbase (even if we ignore the microstransactions, the systems are set up to encourage you to use them to bypass artificial time wasting/difficulty)
It's one of the most disappointing games in the last 15 years, shackled by a publisher (Amazon Games) that purposefully does everything in its power to kill its western release with censorship/silly changes to gold/silver generation/not removing the need to play 6 characters in a roster to try and upgrade 1 main and that horrible feeling of missing out that you're always behind no matter how many activities you do or the stress of raiding and 1 dies = all die
I would really enjoy a Lost Ark 2 that was ARPG only with no Amazon Games involvement
story is boring as f*ck and the combat feels fluid but the skills, items and everything around evolving your character is bland and literally the worst in the genre.
its like having the decent looking family run restaurant which gives you tons of good food where you feel satisfaction after eating there (last epoch). meanwhile a shiny looking restaurant which only gives you a small piece of food, puts some sparkles on it and gives you a huge price tag. afterwards you feel regret for wasting your money and time on it (diablo4).
Clearly he must be a major shareholder in Activision-Blizzard-Microsoft if he wants to spend that much on an average game. He has further deluded himself that his time is best spent in other ARP communities to further drive up ABMs stockprice by ever so tiny margins.
Also diablo 4 is bloatware with its 90 gb. LE is 20 gb while having more of everything.
Terrible itemisation that is supposedly being reworked next season, but I won’t hold my breath.
The game looks good and plays good, but that’s it. Blizzard has no idea how to make Diablo good, they haven’t for a long time.
This game has a much better foundation and far better systems, it just needs polish.
I can believe that Activision-Blizzard-Microsoft-Salem developers are in other games ARPG's steam forums to try and drum up sales for Diablo 4
They certainly aren't spending their time working on Diablo 4 instead
