I keep hitting a wall.

So I've gotten 4 classes to 30+ now, and with every single one it feels like the moment I cross the lvl 30 mark, the game gets like a hundred times harder.
Suddenly I'm being one-shot, enemies all have the 'attack player' tag and ignore my minions, my damage falls to nothing and fights take forever...the game just seems to get way harder.
Why is that? Anyone else hitting this wall and losing interest? It just feels bad to have a build that I'm enjoying for such a huge chunk of the game and then out of nowhere it feels inadequate and un-fun.

EDIT: Should mention, I don't do 'meta' builds, so no spinning paladin or any other cheap, un-fun builds. I play my own way.

I don't have problems through the campaign and monolith with all my 4 builds.
Lagon (Cthulhu god) can be hard for the first 10 tries tbh :)

you must be doing something terribly wrong. There can be small wall around lvl 15-20, but so far every build i tried started cutting content around 20 quite easily up to 100 monos

I made blind run without any guides and
im on corruption 150-200 and still have is too easy lol

I mean, I'm by no-means a pro gamer. I'm too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ old. But I'd be happy to 'git gud' as soon as someone can explain to me what kind of skill I could master that would allow me to evade one-frame deaths that come out of nowhere?

But for real, I stack all minion dmg and health, am I supposed to be dog-piling HP onto my own gear? Am I supposed to be able to sponge a certain amount of dmg, rather than just play to avoid it?

For instance, the last fight I did before just giving up, there was a group of the small beetles and a queen beetle mob. I drop a curse, send my minions in to attack, and then a green pool pops underneath me and I'm dead. This wasn't a boss, I don't have lag, I just die.

There is this thing called resistances. Anything below 75% can be very fatal past lvl 30.

Focusing on a specific dmg trait with skill masteries and gear helps a lot.

Skill tags at the bottom of each skill is your friend.

You do not have to follow builds, but you do need to focus your skills.

The unfortunate effect of many layered defenses, I had excessive health and ward on my mage the last time for my level range, but still got erased fast because i took a physical damage hit and my armor and physical resist was very low.

TLDR cant ignore resists and armor and any other defense. Other games usually let you stack hp and get away with a few hits, it doesnt work here.

I've tried some and they are good to go, thou now i can understand the logic of skills and passives and can make my own builds, better suited for me and my playstile.

I only played two classes so far but noticed a huge discrepancy in firepower. With my lightning mage it took me maybe 2-3 minutes to kill chapter bosses. With my necromancer it takes 10 seconds. It's probably best to make the build around the gear if you don't want to trade :D

Not sure what you do wrong but would love to see what talents you use and what items you use.

The game does not really need you to build a lot of damage, focus on survival first. Secondly you don't need 5 damage abilities you should have at least one defensive ability and one movement ability, some movement abilities can work as both such as shift in rogue.
