Personally, I honestly don't care one way or another; it's clear that this game has had a rough road to development, and if skipping gender selection lets them finally launch the game, I'm fine with that.
Then prepare for mediocre, repetitive voices in all your games.
Anyone remember Diablo 2? There's a reason why Carbot uses the sounds and voices from that despite there being two more games of content to draw from. You hear a sound, like the Sorceress' death cry, you instantly know which class it is. I imagine the developers are going for a similar thing here.
Besides, I imagine character customization is damn hard to do, what with modeling each and every piece of gear around it, and very easy to screw up. Go ask modern blizzard how that's going. I can definitely see an exodus from D4 happening on the 21st, and I will be one of them.
Bliz screwed up WoW, and drove me to FF14. Now, they messed up Diablo and...well...here we are.
See, I agree with this. Fixed characters are honestly more immersive for me than customized characters, because they have a personality of their own (even if only in memes).
Also, I played FF14 at launch for a year or two. It was insanely terrible. If you had an hour now and then to burn, then don't even bother. It takes that long just to check the obtuse auction house. My point is, ♥♥♥♥ my awful IRL "friends" for making me do this.
The only game where I enjoyed playing as the female characters was Marvel Heroes Omega, and that was because I was a fan of the heroes and their backstories. Most games don't have that level of world building so if it is a female protagonist I lose interest in the game. Tomb Raider series and Horizon Zero Dawn being two examples that I lost interest in playing.
