Purchase of cosmetics
When the full version is released, will purchased cosmetics disappear or will they remain for all playable characters?

I would like to know that to see if I spend my points on cosmetics or save them for the full version <3

At launch, all cosmetics obtained during early access (either through direct purchase via the MTX store or from Kickstarter/Supporter bundles) remain for all online playable characters.

Though, there's supposed to be more cosmetics coming at launch so maybe you want to wait to see if there's something you want more than the current ones. Just a thought, but ultimately it's your money and your choice.

The important part here is "online playable characters". Any cosmetics you purchase are only usable in online play only meaning you can't use them on offline / solo play characters.

It's true you can't use them with an offline character

It's very much true that offline characters will not be able to interact with or use the cosmetic MTX shop. As Kain, community manager at EHG, states below:

With the addition of online multiplayer, our plan for offline mode is to create a truly offline mode. This means that until you click the “Play Online” button, no data is sent across the internet. No account login, no account check, nothing. Fully offline. This means offline (which will become fully offline) cannot support connective features such as chat, leaderboards, or the cosmetic shop.

Plans for the offline mode becoming truly offline at launch were stated in this announcement:[forum.lastepoch.com]
As we’re talking about changes to the client here, we also want to quickly mention our plans for the future of the Last Epoch’s offline mode. With Beta Patch 0.9, Offline mode will continue to work as it currently does, where it has some online services such as friends list support, and chat. However, as we move towards 1.0, we’re planning to make offline truly offline. This will mean offline mode will not require an internet connection at any point (beyond initially downloading the game). This also means offline mode will not support connected functionality but will offer a genuinely offline experience to players who want it. You will only be asked to connect to our servers when you select to play multiplayer and play on our servers.

Mike Weicker, a senior developer at EHG, shows off a preview of the full offline mode selection during the November 17, 2023 dev stream.

Says the shop isn't available offline, that doesn't mean cosmetics aren't. They could do a one time check which sets a flag so future launches of the game know what you have, and things like Steam purchased cosmetics wouldn't even require checking their shop since those are flagged as steam "DLC." If you want to buy anything new you would need to load the game in online mode to buy it and set the client side flags, but then reloading the game into offline mode could remember what you own. Whether it works like that is yet to be seen, but nothing I've seen posted here suggests it doesn't and considering they want to fund all future development through MTX it would be ridiculous to not allow what could very well be a majority of their playerbase access to any MTX.

You may want to read through the entirety of that thread, which I've also posted below, if you're convinced cosmetics will work in the offline mode.

They still did not directly say no cosmetics offline anywhere in the thread. They mentioned no offline coin spending in the cosmetic shop, no buying the MTX as steam items, and no online checkins. They also didn't deny anyone claiming there were no cosmetics at all offline, so I still think this could go either way and I have a hard time imagining the devs would make a decision to for example not allow people to use their preordered/supporter cosmetics offline. There's shooting yourself in the foot, and then there's willingly feeding the lower half of your body into a wood chipper. A decision like that leans heavily toward the later.

Offline cosmetics does not require check-ins, it does not require pseudo-offline, there isn't really any excuse not to have them other than to intentionally spite the people asking for offline.

So I asked very specifically on their Discord:
Question: Will cosmetic MTX be available to offline players at 1.0?

Developer: No. Cosmetics will not be available for offline characters at 1.0 on Feb 21.

I hope that clarifies it better than that forum thread.

Wow what a terrible way to go about this stuff. How are these decisions just glossed over by the community?

Have you ever heard of the infamous "horse armor"? Been downhill since then.

Yep, I was there and despite people talking about how bad it was people still bought them. But at least you were not required to be online when you used that DLC with this game you do. I am not saying I hate all DLC but for a game offering offline and online it makes it harder to justify the purchase when you can't use it in all modes of play.

It is easy to forget what the casual gamer looks like. 8 hours a week and zero engagement with out of game materials, be it forums/discord.

As for the engaged user, poke around information is dolled out very randomly, and even when compiled most users do not engage with everything.

A good example is the live streams, mike drops good info there, from time to time, and look at the views. That was how we blundered into the RM not having minions situation, the information was out there. It was in a live stream, and even when brought up here most people were not aware, yes even the ones who voiced their views on the change.

Same with the story not being finished, or items missing their models, or perhaps more recently when mike said in a live stream that all of the skill/trees would not be in 1.0.

Another reason why cosmetics should only be earned by playing the game, not opening your wallet.
