I know, I'm pointing that out.
Because "done in the old way" in this situation means "without modern features most games have in 2024".
That doesnt mean it can't. Gender selection would be a nice thing to have.
However....
Why can't the devs choose too tell a story about each character with in their game? Vs players roll playing there own character.
Gamers don't seem to have a huge issue with games like gta RDR2 ( red dead redemption 2) not having gender selection?
Imo not every game out there NEEDS it. If devs of a game want to have back stories for characters. And they see said character as say female. They should be allowed to do so.
Imo there literally nothing wrong with having no gender selection.
Let them be protagonist style characters if they want
Time has passed and this topic comes up again and again. I'm not sure if it is a vocal minority or truly a lot of people want it, but their current stance is - they know some people want it, they know these people won't stop asking for it, so they are open to do in the future, but no promises for now.
It is definitely not coming for 1.0 and I wouldn't hold my breath for the near future. If they ever implement such a feature I would guess it will be at least in a year or two.
Baldur's Gate 3 has custom characters with an actual story (dark urge), not the excuse plot the devs here have in place. Its not a design choice, its just a bad choice.
This is an extremely bad agreement for it.
U do know that game is based off of dungeons and dragons 5e right. Using the same system as the TTRPG game does.
BG series where made so u and friends or even ur self can play a D&D like game with out a DM(dungeon master)
BG3 also doesn't have built in main characters like RDR2 and gta as well as other games of that style.
There are story backgrounds currently in LE for each class. So yes it actually does.
There's absolutely nothing wrong or bad about doing this.
Let game devs tell their own story. If that means it's protagonist style like gta. Or they want to put u the player as the main character/s like BG3 or even the first 2 BG games. Then let them
Neither of these are bad game designs at all. They have there own style and way of telling the story
U didn't even answer my question I asked u.
Why can't devs build a back story and have main characters u play in thier game if for this genera. Vs putting u the player as the main character
It being 2024 is a weak argument for it as well. Not every game has to have gender selection.
Any feature that adds to the developers workload will typically be met with resistance from entrenched players, never mind how logical or persuasive your argument is.
How many games have you played that tell a story and simply refer to your created character as generic term? Dragon born, captain, ascended, etc. The notion that you have to do only one is silly and yet here it is on full display.
Once you start looking at the "decisions" EHG has made in my view the only logical reason is a lack of framework to implement them. A lack of framework because why bother doing it right the first time when you can find the time to do it the 2nd time. Why bother when you only intend to support LE for the next ten years. Why bother creating a framework with future proofing in mind and fringe monetization options, to say nothing of the generic improvement paths that open up alongside this framework.
LE was supposed to have their full 1.0 release only a year after going into early access so it makes sense that the driving factor was not "vision" but necessity. Yet, here we are how many years overdue, and how much cut content, as "people" will tell you there are other more important things to get done first.
Having said all of that, the only option you have is to vote with your wallet. Buy? Do not buy? if this feature is important the only recourse you have is to make the request known, and vote with your wallet.
I mean to be fair, they added a cash shop to a paid game, which is a gigantic red flag, not to mention an early access game, which is another gigantic red flag, while gutting core content (transmog), a third flag, and overpriced the hell out of it, which is the 4th flag, so gender-locked classes are really just a fart in a sea of ♥♥♥♥ at this point.
