Personally, i would prefer a traditional model with paid expansions and no cosmetic store, since seasonal content in other games is hilariously underwhelming compared to expansions. Give or take 10 PoE seasons would be equal in quantity to your average "Lord of Destruction", with far less quality. But it is what it is.
As always, others doing worse does not justify EHG being slightly less bad. But to each their own.
As for OP's question, if the release goes bad or they don't reach a satisfying player count, expect a discount on summer/winter 2024, not before.
Pretty disappointing that the game is supposed to come out Feb 21 2024 yet there's no winter sale right before it to boost sales.
PoE is free and you need like 5-15$ for stashes, that's it. They've been building their brand for long years. Stop defending this greedy developers. I hope they fail and just disappear from the industry forever. Activision is cancer too, but at least Diablo is AAA game with big budget, cinematics and playable multiplayer.
You don't understand. First we sell the game for money and make money on those who buy it. And then after some time we say that we will transfer the game to free play and give all those who bought it some skin as a sign of respect =)
As far as I remember Last Epoch originally planned as a free-to-play and to it sold support packs for early access, but then the monetization scheme was changed.
And greed is a hell of a drug that devs love to get hooked on.
Yes LE was originally set to be F2P up to level 20 and the sticker price was only in place to curb bots, an issue we have long moved past thanks faction system. Remember the sticker price. that has only gone up, was never intended to support EHG long term.
Full 1.0 release in a year, so the notion that its funds holding LE back is a bit silly, especially with all the feature bloat when so many core functions are confirmed to be missing at 1.0.
