It's probably your build. Minion necro is consistently very powerful. Right now there is a fire-necro going around that is pretty strong.

If minions are underwhelming, then its probably the wrong setup. Any +damage you have will have 0 effect on them. You specifically need +Minion damage. Try this:

Shift F for loot filter
add rule, recolor: [your favorite color] [Affixes]
now, select the minion tab in the drop down to add all minion stuff. Then, in the same rule, scroll down to acolyte. Select "shared X damage" of the damage type you want to build arround.

Save the rule. equip these gears. profit

Check my similar post which is in the first couple pages I'm sure. I was having problems too but, IDK, not so much anymore. I'm using ONLY melee physical minions and doing fine.

I'm playing one and it's fantastic.

Focus on melee only minions, skeleton warriors/rogue, remove archers from pool, get stone golems, wraiths (you can make a few permanent), use bone curse to curse all enemies constantly increasing physical damage per enemy hit, get gear with +minion damage.

Level 43 right now, still doing campaign but I have zero issues.

I'm using one. Melee Skels + fire archers + fire Golems + fire mages + wraith spam and I myself use Hungering Souls as a ward builder. Works OK so far.

My build is very similar. I used skeleton archers at first, until I got an uber spear with + minion melee damage so now that's all I use.

I also use permanent wraiths and bone curse with the armor shred (it gets insane how much armor shred, and yes, it can go into the negatives).

I didn't realize there was a bone golem node, I should look into that.

I also use Assemble Abomination (also permanent).

I USED to use Bone Golem, both before and after the "buf", but I think it's the worse of the skills I use (even post-buff) and I had to swap something out for something that gives ward. It's almost mandatory in certain fights, sadly. After trying and not liking volatile zombies, I swapped to Soul Feast, and it's an amazing ward generator. Might not do as much damage as zombies, but I don't need damage. The ward is amazing.

EDIT: Oh another reason not to use bone golems, they are very loud and sound annoying. lol. My other minions don't make quite so much noise.

Hah funny, i'm in love with the bone golems, two of them just shred through most non elite enemies with one charge and then the rest take down bigger ones. I love their sound too.

The only gripe I have with Minion necro is the "small" pets die pretty fast to some boss mechanics.

oh interesting why are the fire version more stronger it seems?

I play one as well and honestly end-game feels easy for the most part. I would try looking into some builds online if you are having issues with yours.

as a necro summoner, a huge portion of your minion damage comes from dread shade and applying it properly, i would say that necromancer minions just starting off is on the weaker side compared to primalist companions. you will notice that without any special uniques that your summon wraith does like 3-4x the damage of your other minions, a lot of necro minion builds are being carried early on by wraiths

The only "small pets" that die easily for me is the bone minions from transplant. If you're having problems, maybe you need more minion health or something.

Minion builds are hard carried by Dread/Infernal Shade, without specializng on them, they just feel so bad in end-game.
