Emperor of Corpses
I like the game and progress is quite easy even with suboptimal builds and rather poor gear. So the difficulty spike posed by the Emperor of Corpses comes as a bit of a surprise for me. I have two decent characters: a lvl 83 Rogue/Bladedancer and a lvl 80 Primalist/Beastmaster. Even after many tries I just can't get past this boss.

The Bladedancer is a great build and hacks through anything with dual daggers. Still the fight drags on and in the end either a DoT or an instakill attack ends up getting me.

The Beastmaster does more damage (best try: I got it down to 50% health) and since it uses pets allows to keep some distance. But walking speed is limited (can't maximize everything) so again I end up getting killed every time.

I haven't found much useful information so far - any ideas how to win this fight?

you need to get out of the circle before he does his thing, then you need to get back in right after he finishes doing that thing.

It seems they changed something with yesterdays update. And what do you know: I beat him after a couple more attempts. I upgraded my gear a bit (especially to get more run speed) and managed to kill the dragon with my Beastmaster. Still: it was by far the toughest fight so far in the entire game. The area-instakill-powers are a bit too much. 10 pets are of little use when they can all be one-shotted. I'll try to kill him with my Blademaster as well.

Still like the game after more than 150 hrs. The endgame is really enjoyable.

I've always felt that that fight was a movement speed check.

yesterdays change was his blast attack, which one shot even if not close to it. Now they seem to have added a reduced effect at range so it no longer one shots, it just does 90% of you total HP.

As for the the circles you have to get outside the first one, then immediately after it ends move back in close to the safe area around it, if not you area dead. So you need a lot of run speed and or a travel skill and save it for the second ring to get in close.

Once feature they still haven't fixed is the boss not being pushed about by melee players/pets so its easy to push it into the edge of the combat area removing the safe zone behind it.

Before yesterdays patch I could kill it with care with my Necro but finding it hard now when I need to get 2 drops from it[staff/heart]

It's the number of dangerous attacks that I find problematic: too many for one foe. Deadly circles, deadly breath, spawns, grenade, bloodpools...too much to keep track of. Feels like a bullet hell game.

just get necrotic res up to >50% for that fight. You can just use the rings with necro res implicit, it does't matter what is rolled on them. One of those rings is >40% necro res.

Yah there are some bosses that really spike in difficulty, with some builds Lagon is also a ♥♥♥♥♥ to fight :S

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/704436959 --A bit of a short clip to help you visualize how to sidestep the attacks, you should have an easier time of it with a bit of move speed boots.

Check your modifiers.. They changed nothing with him last patch xD

I agree, he's by far the hardest boss in the entire game, and I will defend that fact no matter what. It seems that maybe certain builds have it easier than others (whereas most bosses in the game can be overcome with *any* build).

I'm glad you finally beat it. I beat every other monolith boss easy but used to struggle with him every time I fight him until recently. It's dumb. I don't think the nerfs in the recent patch are enough because it's the DoT that seems worst. However, I recently switched to a low health build and all of a sudden he's easy. His pools of blood ignore ward and go straight to my health but it can't kill you (it does a % damage) so all it does is increase my ward generation. I can sit in them all day and be happy as a log.

I briefly used Soul Feast to generate ward (instead of a low health build) and it doesn't do very good against him but when I switched to making Soul Feast restore health it was easy. Go figure.

Minions shouldn't die super fast against him. If they are, you need more minion health regen/leech (or if they are being one-shotted, then you need more minion health I suppose). My abomination and wraiths are so tanky now they never die and could solo him on their own after I died if they had to. (You still get the blessing and credit for killing a boss if your minions kill it after you die, all you lose is the drops.)

Uh, check the patch notes bro, and stop acting like you know what you're talking about when you clearly don't.

Thanks for all your info and suggestions. Some mechanics like ward I have experimented with but with modest success so far. I haven't touched any low health builds so far, seems that's another route worth exploring - might definitely give that one a try.
