Will there be LAN game play as well?

I bought the game for the family and wanted to know will LAN be added with this In time?

Not before 1.0, and given how they are approaching with the live service multiplayer, its very unlikely. Even current "offline" requires server auth, and people report losing progress.
Grim Dawn is the only decent option when it comes to LAN, Titan Quest too if you are feeling nostalgic.

I don't think so, no.
It would be quite a huge deal to make a client into a server for a lan party.

And in reality it would be used by like all of 10 people or so.
I mean: How many people don't have internet available to them at this point? Let alone a group of people that want to play together AND don't have internet available?

I'm not against it but I doubt it, even simple Torchlight 2 style drop in/out would be nice :)

It is pretty much a gauge for whether or not the modding community cares about the game. Look at the Diablo 2 legacy modding community vs Diablo 2 resurrected. D2R got rid of any capacity to legally play mods multiplayer (no LAN, TCP/IP) so mods are ToS limited to single player, so no one really cares enough to mod it... despite it being a very mod friendly game.

I honestly doubt there will be LAN play, or even a real offline mode, ever.

Everywhere you look, this game is advertised as having an "offline mode". But they don't directly tell you that this is "coming soon", and the current offline mode requires server authorization aka DRM.

It seems like something they are trying to hide, and I'm not going to purchase the game until offline mode is actually available. To be clear, I would pay full price today if this was available, but I simply don't invest time in games that can "disappear".

And I don't buy the explanation that "actually storing the characters on your computer would be super complicated!" which makes zero sense. I'm open to being proven wrong, but the existing explanations seem slimy and untrustworthy to me.

Well as it was part of the kickstarter promises I would expect it at some point, but its literally never been mentioned for years. So who knows.

I was chatting to a dev on Reddit about this recently and there will be no LAN mode on launch, it'll be online using their servers or offline single player.

Bit of a shame because I'd rather play this over LAN with my buddies and avoid the 30 second transition times. I have to admit, I haven't played in a few months because of transitions :(
