Real talk: those dlc packs are scams or what?
No seriously: When I want to buy a game, yeah I will be pretty vary if there is already dlc totalling up more than twice of base game price and with the total lack of information on what these packs even add to the game I am more than a little bit concerned!
What's more concerning even is that said pricy dlc is already present while the game is still in early access.

That stuff looks like grind skips to me, which is one of the biggest red flags a game could be having

Can someone give a concise rundown on what each of those packs contains?

The game looks super cool, I'd love to support but shady looking mtx practices arent very enocuraging!

Cheers

There's no dlc in this game.

So they want money for nothing then. Certainly the kind of scam I am fond of

The game is unfortunately a live service. There is indeed DLC in the form of cosmetics, not expansions. And while not legally a scam, 30-35 bucks for an armor re-skin is excessive. Almost make me miss horse armor. Not really.

They are supporter packs containing cosmetics and other stuff (forum icons for their official site maybe?) and points packs for purchasing cosmetic items. They are perfectly optional. Personally I wouldn't touch these though. In my case I feel that having purchased the game should suffice to 'show my support' for the developers.

ah yeah ok. thanks!
Thats very useful information. Think that'll be a hard pass for me:
Excessively greedy mtx to support a so called 10 years live service plan. that stuff like never pans out. Games probs dead a year after 1.0,
Better of not even starting to throw my money into the direction of a doomed project

Oh you meant mtx. No one's forcing you to buy those.

Please don't go preaching company gospel

MTX : optional = lootboxes : surprise mechanics

If everybody values their money enough to not invest in overpriced mtx this game will shut down and with the red flags I am seeing here: yeah this will shut down = spending even base game price is burning money!

And yet their entire financial model relies on people buying them. The game and company will literally cease to exist if nobody purchases anything.

EHG put it like this.

How We Got Here
Admittedly, we ended up leaning too hard into following the established and successful models in the industry. The operational cost of EHG as a studio has risen sharply with the increasing team size, quality of the game, server expenses, etc., and our current price tag of $35 for the game was never designed to be the only source of income to ensure that we’re able to continue operating. So, when we were evaluating our options, we leaned on advice designed around previous titles, and that was a mistake.

Last Epoch fans aren’t here because they want something that’s already been done; you are here because you see how much we have to offer the genre. Over time we hope to bring that same innovation and player focus into the monetization space.

The 'monetization space'... the phrase makes me do a bit of sick in my own mouth

The people still defending this make me think off "Yes Sir, I will."

Who cares about optional cosmetics??
sibbs Jun 28, 2023 @ 1:29am
I've no problem at all with any Game Company selling cosmetic items, cosmetic items are not pay to win.

If pay to win were the only issue with games of this kind...
This has been explained in the other threads about the problem, if you are curious.

They're not a scam, they are just atrociously priced, most of them dont look worth the price, and they are FOMO.

If you're also the sort of person who thinks it's in bad taste and kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to do shops in EA when 3 subclasses are still missing, you might also leverage that they are an indicator of bad prioritization, when it comes to implementing content.

But hey. Hope that year of no work being done just so they can ♥♥♥♥ out MP and lose 90% of their players a month into the big patch, was worth it.
