A dev worth supporting is quite a thing, I personally view this particular business model not as supporting the developer but attempting to increase the quality and frequency of new content and updates. Not the take you likely expected me to have but I do not see anything inherently wrong with an in game store.
And then this was reiterated during the February 10th developer stream:[forum.lastepoch.com]
However, they did announce during the most recent developer stream on March 3, 2023 that the cosmetic shop would be delayed a bit. So expect it to release some time after March 9th, likely in one of the hotfixes that will accompany patch 0.9 in the weeks ahead.
I supported them by buying the game. I'd support them again if they make a good expansion or another good game. I won't spend a dime for cosmetics that should be part of the game already. When they pull them out for the store, inevitably the art direction tends to drift away from the original vision in the game and it becomes a bunch of gaudy crap. Your 'skin' should reflect your gear anyway.
Fully agree
And its not even something super popular, if they wanted money so bad then they should of chosen a smarter business model or made a different game.
How is EHG going to give free updates/content with only the box price. That won't cut it or work.
EHG plans to be a live service game the shop is to fund all future expansions. And release them for free.
For me I'd rather have the shop and get content for free. And not deal with half assed over priced DLC. We all know how many games do there DLC.
The initial price of the game is to cover development costs and have some sort of profit margin.
Servers cost money to maintain.
This is what everyone should expect as they demand to have online multiplayer games.
If you don't want scummy microtransactions go play singleplayer games or games with local co-op.
