Correct.
They pretty much run the internet in China because their 1 app does literally everything all of our other apps do. Where we have texting, facebook, snapchat, etc etc etc. Tencent just takes whatever is popular and adds it into their main application. They also partner with almost every game dev to release games in china. If you wanna sell to China's MASSIVE market. You have to work with Tencent.
That being said tencent isn't evil and from what I know they give partners a pretty wide latitude on controlling their partnered products. But yeah. You can only escape Tencent if you're playing a game that refuses to sell in china at all.
How? By not being ignorant denialists?
That's simply not true. I know you made an exaggerated comparison as to make a point that Tencent controls too much already. But as a matter of fact, it is possible to completely and absolutely boycott every single product that has Tencent money in it, like a maniac, and still have way more than enough games to play until you die. I don´t boycott everything that has tencent on it but i know that there are just too many really good non-tencent games out there to be played and that will always be the case.
I dont think you can include any game that was simply developed in Unreal engine as a tencent game. No, that's not accurate. Unreal engine is sold like a license for any company, not only tencent owned ones.
Anyways that's a side issue, I'm not picking any dog in this thread's fight, i'm just commenting on things I think are important to clarify. My point is that if people want to boycott tencent, which they can do if they want, they are not automaticaly sent to an alien world in exile, and one thing that may be pointless to you , might not be for someone else. It's all about subjectivity.
I do agree that it's not an all or nothing thing like some people have painted it though. There are definitely a ton of games that aren't, in any way, associated with Tencent. I just don't like when people put up threads like this as if they are on some type of pedestal while they surround themselves with stuff that is involved in some way with the thing they are boycotting.
Maybe one day you folks stop feeding dem obvious troll.. today is not that day but here's to hoping we'll get there, some day.
Well at least you have consistent morals. I gotta give you that if you are being truthful.
But my dude, you have A TON of games to stop playing... Look up how much TenCent owns.
You might as well stop gaming.
I figure it's still better than supporting blizzard these days, but yeah, feels bad.
I hate Tencent too but you do realize vermintide, darktide and a plethora of your other games you play also has Tencent's greedy, grubby paws in it; right?
In fact, past 5-10 years, that goes for all genres.
If there were 10 poe-level of complexity and depth ARPGs, then I'd potentially consider the moral standings of their producers.
Until then though, oh well lol.
Tencent does have ties with the CCP, there's no denying that and the fact they are obtaining large shares in so many major industries is concerning to say the least and if that is your reason, then that's up to you.
