Is synergy possible? Example:
I can skill that Javelin Smite cast. If I now improve Smite, is this the improved Smite or the normal? (same by Lich: Death Seal and Hungering Souls.)

you will be able to do builds like hammer throw from d2 but they now cast smite ( fist of heaven on hit) which is a cast on throw from an idol ( Charm) that synergize with skills tree from smite it self, so you can do crazy stuff, if you can imagine it you can probably do it

It should synergize as long as you don't pick up something from the Smite skill tree that messes up this interaction.
