Yeah but it's not the same. Takes longer, whereas before a quick glance at the average DPS showed whether a weapon was enabling better damage. Every ARPG has this. I sincerely hope this is coming back.
Except that the average DPS you're referencing was only calculated for your Basic Attack (a melee skill without a skill tree), which is nearly useless for most other skills in the game.
The Tooltip DPS was added in patch 0.8.1 and gives a better indication of the changes your gear/passives/etc have on each specific skills' DPS -- as each Tooltip DPS is specifically designed for that skill.
