Last Epoch

Last Epoch

Why do I suddenly need an account?
I bought Last Epoch about a month ago, played an hour, then took a break (for Cyberpunk) - and now the game suddenly doesn't let me play unless I create a Last Epoch account?

Is that normal? I really don't appreciate being bullied into yet another third party account...

i think its because of EHG making the gameclient ready for multiplayer.

Well, unless I can play offline without an account, I will contact steam and see if I can get a refund.

It might be petty, but isn't it already annoying enough that you need 10+ different game launchers nowadays? And now this game needs its own account, too? Sorry, enough is enough...

Social Features (account login/creation, chat, cosmetics, ladder, etc) were temporarily disabled for the 0.8 Patch release as EHG took additional time to upgrade their back-end infrastructure. This is why people who purchased the game during that time didn't have to create a Last Epoch account. Patch 0.8c brought those Social Features back online, as reiterated in those patch notes:

Note: Last Epoch requires a Last Epoch account for all users.

If you are a new user since the release of Beta 0.8 you will now need to register an account with Beta 0.8c. You will be presented a registration screen upon entering the game after the update. This will not affect any saved data.

However, the Steam store page has always stated that a Last Epoch account was necessary to play the game during this beta period:

Requires 3rd-Party Account: Last Epoch (Supports Linking to Steam Account)

This was certainly overlooked by many who purchased the game on Steam after Patch 0.8 released and have now been asked to create a Last Epoch account when starting the game since Patch 0.8c released, which restored all Social Features.

At launch, however, there will be both Offline-only and Online-only modes of the game so you may want to re-visit the game then to see if this requirement has changed.

Thank you for clearing this up. I actually quite enjoyed the game for the short time I had with it, so as soon as there is an offline mode, I'll be sure to jump back in. :-)

I shared some frustration on this topic a month ago or so, yes it is beyond annoying to have multiple launchers and accounts for games now a days. With accounts for paying bills, my job, bank, games, netflix, etc I mean the list goes on and on. I seriously have a book of all the accounts and passwords in my life.
