100% GPU usage
Something is wrong with this game, doesnt matter where, in the Menu screen, in the town hub with just a couple npcs, anywhere, it eats up 100% my GPU (granted its not the newest thing - GTX 1060). Changing any options doesnt do much. Is it bad optimisation?

Sorry I hate to say this, but I'm guessing it's your PC.

Running a 2070 Super and game uses about 30% of the GPU and about the same on my CPU. And that's running game on 4k at 60FPS, with all settings on max....except Shadow and Bloom which I turn off.

I'm not saying game doesn't need more optimisation, because it does.

Vsync... run at half. For some reason this fixed my same issue you are having.

how weird is that at full or off its 100% at 50% its well 50% usage and coming in at around 50%.Thanks

i always use Vsync and i know tha game is in beta

gpu is 100% even with Vsync

but if i use lowest grapics and vsync the gpu is around 60-70%
vsync will sync to your monitor refresh rate so make sure that your monitor is set to 60hz.
Limit the fps foreground to 60 background to 30.
This game engine is a bit odd, it doesn't work with vsync like other games. It overlays the game in such a way that our gpus are forced to render the desktop and anything else like a browser or whatever is under the game. For older gpus 10x series or older, its a taxing way to design a game. With how hard it is to get new gpus, some of us are right fked too because we can't even upgrade.

my system
R7 3700x
RTX 2070
32GB DDR4
Win 10
Settings Ultra Vsync off

most Time i Have 60fps
in the Hub the fps go down to 5fps.
Whats probably happening with your setup is with vsync off your running wide open which translates to massive heat. Your gpu will cycle clocks down to preserve the gpu and lower the heat. Thats why you see 5fps in a hub or probably in hectic combat it might happen too.
This game runs my gpu super hot. I've gone as far as relapsing silver paste and cleaning dust off the fans, fan profile 80% fan speeds, which helped. But this game is incredibly hard on gpus, and its all related to the game engine not running in true full screen mode so the vsync might not even be working.. as it runs in some kind of overlay mode stretching to full screen. It taxes the gpu something fierce.
And to prove this game doesn't run in true full screen mode, run 2 monitors and if the mouse slide from one monitor to the other without alt tabbing out, that essentially means its not true full screen mode.

Im running vsync on, monitor forced into 60 hz mode so the frames don't get out of control (thats when the heat happens then the power cycles clock mhz down).

I have the exact same problem. No matter what resolution i use 3840x2160 or 1920x1080 - the GPU usage is always at 100%. There is no frame limiter ingame and sadly, also not in my nvidia control panel. GPU gets REALLY hot, in the main menu up to 80° which is insane!

You can see there is no difference, short bump on picture 2 is game restart after switching resolutions.

My system:
Processor: Intel i7 - 9700K, 8x 3.60 GHz
Cooling: Corsair Hydro Series H100i Pro
Board: MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus
Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super (8GB GDDR6)
Ram: Corsair DDR4 3000 32GB
HDD: 500GB Samsung SSD 970 Evo Plus
HDD: 4TB Western Digital Blue
Power: 750 Watt Corsair RMx Series

So please add an FPS limiter!
What are you talking about, there is a fps limiter under the vsync option.
Alternatively, run vsync on and force your monitor to run 60hz. That will cap the fps, caps any heat issues and reduces gpu power cycling which reduce clock speeds and causes lag.
Actually, looking at your hardware you can run this game with most option on full. Just fix your monitor to 60hz and vsync on full.

Id guess most of you are running 144hz monitors with no vsync and trying to use perhaps free sync mode or n sync modes.. Its not a first person shooter so you don't need to be running that crap.. These games are designed to run 60hz vsynced which caps the fps to 60. If you got some beefy expensive 4k monitors or 2k, you need beefy video cards to push those resolutions as well. So if thats the case, hook up an old 60hz 1080 monitor and see the difference..

This game with no vsync tears like crazy. So you can't even use the fps limiters with vsync on but you wont need to if you cap your monitor to 60hz. Turn every game option to low except the shadow one needs to be at least the 2nd lowest option, and make sure the Anti Alias is set to the (preferred) option as it smooths out the shadows the best.

I noticed the game is really heavy on GPU as well, and I have a 1660 ti. Also laptop, so there's that. Still, it should demand less, maybe some optimization, idk

Just in case, this game is on beta! So it needs a lot of optimization.

Are you using VSync on? Because if you don't the FPS is not limited and then will always use 100% GPU. Because Vsync off will render maximum FPS the Graphic card can handle.

Turn Vsync on and report back if the problem was fixed.
Turned Vsynch ON and the problem persists. 99 - 101% GPU usage, and GPU temperature hovers around 80. Same as when Vsynch is OFF.

just posted in reply to this as its now alot of time passed since this thread was opened and i discovered today my gpu a rtx 2070 super is running at 100% when i play this which cant be right can it?

I feel like theres something fundementally wrong with this games engine or optimisation or whatever, I dont think this can be fixed.

I have a 3080 and I have 100% usage at 90 capped FPS. It can go up to >144 obviously, but there is no need. Regardless it uses everything, something is utterly broken there.

At 60 I still have a 200W outage.
At 30 I still have a ~100W outage.

In Path of Exile I capped it at 200W and on a high-tier multi layered map (for those interested: Delirium, Breach, getting engaged by Betrayal League) I have between 180-210 and PoE is known for not very well optimized. Something can't be right in Last Epoch.

It's unity, which is renowned for not handling fast games with lots of objects on screen very well in real time. Coupled with the fact they are novice developers still figuring out the finer points of optimisation (no offense to them) and you have this result.

To be fair, its been better since last time. But still a way to go.

Oh for sure its much better than it was 12 months or more ago. But I do feel they reached a point of diminishing returns now in terms of improving it.

limit your frames. I think if I don't limit my frame rates at all they go into the 170+ range.

LIke a hot rod on a Dyno... it'll just run crazy unless you put v sync on at least. I think I've gone down as low as 36 fps, and the only thing that I've noticed is the text is hard to read on loot if you move when your frames are that low. Everything else looks fine to me.

That is my experience anyways.

I imagine that 1060 is getting toasty too.

My rx6700 runs at 60c pretty much all the time, which honestly surprised me (everything maxed out). The game does demand a lot of from a GPU though, and it's gonna eat up every last bit of VRAM that it can. Turn off shadows, limit FPS, vsync on, and see if that fixes it. The game looks fine enough even with lower settings so tinker around if you can. You definitely shouldn't be heating up like the sun and the GPU usage is pretty wack. Don't brick 'em GPUs, it's not worth it.
