Step Burst Art?

So far, I'm enjoying this title alot given that it has the monster hunter feel, getting the hang of the combat system,engage, weps, and all, but one thing I'm having an issue is step burst art and it seems that a few ranks in and I haven't been to perform one while in a session. I'm basically double clicking shift to dash and mouse attack, yet I keep switching weps and get no exp. I'd appreciate if someone can give me a proper explanation on how to do a step art as it seems I'm doing this incorrectly and that the guides I looked up don't really explain how to do a step art.

If im understanding you correctly, youre having trouble using the step arts? You use your step dash key then right after you press the corresponding button for the art. I'm not sure how it works with M+KB though im sure it's the same. You just have to time it so that you are pressing the art button while you are still in the slide animation.

Default Step key is E. You hold a direction with WASD, press E, and you'll scoot in that direction. That's a a Step. Now run a direction, hit E, then left or right click all in close sequence, and you'll do a Step Attack. Depending on the Burst Art, it could be either one.

Frankly, I find Step Attacks less useful than the other two, as I usually end up missing the enemy entirely.

Thanks for the responses. I think that the game could have done a better job w/ explaining things like when I check controls some keys I don't know about....
