Heavy Moon Axe Saw

So I've been using the Heavy Moon and enjoy it quite a bit. But, the whole axe saw part I just don't seem to get. It does horrific damage when I use it. And I've even hit weak spots with it as far as I can tell.

I'm doing like, 5-7 damage per tick, so probably like, 60-70 damage total after all the hits? When one of my normal hits can do 50+ on its own.

Sooooo, I'm clearly doing something wrong. The question is, what is it?

Burst Arts will significantly increase it's damage, along with Burst Art Effects. Because it hits multiple times in rapid succession, it was likely balanced with the intention of Burst Art Effects being the main part of it's damage, since it can trigger so quickly, and repeatedly.

Personally, I use the Burst Art that replaces it with a charged single hit attack for high damage, then use the step burst art for the chain axe attack.

Use Moon Storm to bond break and knock aragami down. Then use Moonlight Blade BA (Step into Raging Moon) on a downed enemy head and you can do 8k damage by the time it's finished. 10k if you've got and element bonus or hit a broken bond.

also, not sure if you know it. took me a while to find out. but if you keep hitting attack button, the saw will be sawing longer.

Axe of Apocalypse ist a better version of this attack. Currently i am dealing around 3k damage on a downed aragami.

If you see gray numbers it means you are hitting wrong place.

focus on a weak spot and use OO effective elemental weapon againts x monster if you can craft it. don't try to hit when you're not in burst mode

If you're doing 5-7 per hit, you're attacking a part highly resistant to crush (or all damage in general, like Vajra's cape). In normal form, you'll do more slash damage. In axe form, you'll deal a balance of both. In saw mode, you'll deal more crush damage. Make sure you're hitting the right part with the saw attack. I remember testing the default Amit moon in the training area with no burst arts. The saw attack did 500 damage total on the dummy without charge, and 1500 damage with charge.
