Do I need previous games?
Is this game like Monster Hunter, with stories that are individual to each game? Or, is there a big, long, overarching story that you need to play the previous games to understand?

It is its own story. However, you need to read the wiki just for some background because the game does expect you to have some knowledge of the aragami. So just read the wiki real quick

Awesome, thanks mate. Kinda like how new monster hunter titles expect you to know what monsters you fight, but don't actually expect you to know the world. Nice. c:

I mean, the story continues from the first game to the second one to this one, but none of the characters in the first two really show up in this one. Also, half of the Aragami in this game are from previous games, including ones that were pivotal to the plot, but you can just treat them as you would any other enemy and murder their asses indiscriminately.

Regardless of how much you enjoy this game, I can't recommend playing God Eater 2 Rage Burst. I love it but it's a heap of garbage. Though if you wanted to try Resurrection, the first game, you'd have to buy 2 Rage Burst as it's bundled together with it.

I think 3 does a decent job of introducing you into the world of God Eater.

You don't really need to read the wiki, all three games have codex entries explaining anything you might be interested in.

U can also look up the God Eater manga, u can find all of them online on scanlation sites and they are really nice intro's, though as far as i have seen there are no Manga related to this game.

I u do want to play GE : R or GE2 RB check out God Eater The Second Break, wich introduces all the characters of GE2 RB.
