How To Play Online Via Hamachi Guide
I know there are a lot of posts and many people can't get Hamachi working so I'm posting a quick guide on how to 'Direct Connect' which seems to be the most reliable method...

We will be creating a direct connect shortcut on your desktop as it avoids any issues not being able to see hosted games etc.

How to 'Direct Connect':

Navigate to the following:

\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\

1. Find the file 'Borderlands.exe' and create a shortcut to it on your desktop. (just right click and drag to desktop choosing 'create shortcut here') - DO NOT move/copy the file itself.

2. Get Hamachi (unmanaged will be fine)once installed create a network, once done get your friends to join it. You should note that you need to right click your name and 'Go Online' if you do not have a green dot (its grey etc) - Download is here:

https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi/download.aspx

3. Decide who will be host, who has the best broadband/PC?

4. In Hamachi right click that person and choose copy IPv4 address, paste it in notepad and it will look something like this: 25.100.10.11 (this is not a real one...)

5. For everyone that is not host have them right click the shortcut on the desktop and in the box labelled 'Target' you should see the path to your installed borderlands folder (where you copied the shortcut from) it might be a different drive letter but example below:

C:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe

6. Copy the host Hamachi IPv4 address from your notepad and add to the end like this:

D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe 25.100.10.11

7. Click apply then just hit OK and close the properties window

8. Have the host launch the game and create a public LAN game

9. All the party (apart from the host) can now launch the shortcut you just created and after pressing Enter (past the intro crap) you should drop right in to the lobby, happy days

Thats it, once its done you just follow step 8-9 in future until this crap is resolved. You might have a few issues if the Gamespy login prompt keeps popping up, to get round this open the game and on the prompt untick the auto login box and then hit login. It will fail but the auto login preference will be removed, then you are free to exit the game and follow steps 8-9.

If you decide the host was a bad call then just exit the game and change the Hamachi IPv4 to the new and follow the same process (host creates game first, then launch the shortcut).

Hope it helps.

It worked perfectly well, thank you very much. Took a while to figure it out but that's a very detailed guide right here . Thank you! :)

me and my friend have done everything that this guide has said with no success. We both have hamachi, he creates a network and I join, both of the dots are green so we know we are connected. I right click the top by the ip and copy the IPv4. he is hosting so I right click my created shortcut and go to properties, find the target area and do what you said. My target before i add the ip address looks like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe" , now my target after i add the ip is this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe" xx.xx.xx.xxx ( i replaced the ip with x's, yes i am pasting the correct ip. I have tried to take away the " " and it gives me an error. I have tried to put no space before the ip and i get an error. We have both turned off the auto login for gamespy. Please let me know if you have anymore suggestions.

Oh and we both have tried these steps as well. I host a network and he trys to join and vice versa.

could it possibly be that we are running different operating systems?

Are you saying you cannot save the shortcut with the x.xxx.x.x.x in it? Or that you do and it wont connect?

You could try and make sure the host has these ports available:

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711

They will need to log in to the router and manage their port forwarding, if you google the router type and port forwarding you'll see there are a lot of guides to help on that.

Also forward this:

7777 TCP/UDP (in/out) - actual game data port

Works even with me hosting on a cell phone. Remember that your target should look like: "(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Borderlands\Binaries\Borderlands.exe" your.ip.goes.here

Good stuff, actually mine works fine without the ""s but your example is also spot on.

I know this post is a bit old but since i´ve started BO2 only now i need help with hamachi. I did everything you said and when my friend is host and i start the game with his ip in the target line i do try to connect to him but it gives me the error "could not connect to match. The other player is usin a different patch version" and i also dont find any games when searching for it in lan... i know for 100% that we are usin the exact same version so i have no idea what tf is wrong...

I've done all the steps and, once I'm in the menu, it starts to load. Only to say "you have lost connection with the host".

Please help

I honestly couldnt comment on the versions/patches now its so long ago, make sure you have the right ports available in the firewall and are careful that you are 'online' in hamachi. Aside from that this used to work for me...

I tried to play Borderlands 1 and this guide help me to play LAN via Hamachi. One thing that was not mentioned here was to disable your firewall for the Hamachi network for Domain, Private and Public network profile

I know this is old but there were three GOTYs released for PC. The first two had LAN option in the lobby menu, certainly the second one did. The third was the Enhanced edition which did not have LAN in the menu.

Since the title of this post does not mention Enhanced, and back in 2014 when the OP posted, Enhanced was not even released, am I to assume the reason for this post was because you guys could not connect by going through the LAN option within the game lobby and had to resort to Hamachi?

My friend tried making this work with the Enhanced version where no LAN option exists, using Hamachi but could not. The game would get stuck in a loading loop, not ever reach the lobby if the shortcut included the hamachi network IP.
