The point is, that for 2009, it was pretty ground-breaking. No, it doesn't hold up as well over time as BL2, but there was 3+ years of development between the two. (And BL2 remained in active development for several years after the initial release).
It's the Journeyman effort. Like Mirai said, they took what they learned and made a better version.
This one is clunky, clumsy, maps are sprawling and empty, and there are lots of "go to the other side" quests where it takes just enough time for everything to respawn behind you, and then the next quest is "now go back".
One of the things I find amusing, is that many of the enemies have the same voice lines, by the same actors (as BL2), but the versions in BL1 are all stiff and wooden, and the BL2 versions are all better acted.
Many people prefer this one because it has a "borderlands/wasteland" feel to it, whereas BL2 has more of a zany, cyberpunk feel to it. But then again, many of those who prefer this one played this one first.
I play this one once in a while, because it's fun to see where it all came from, and it's fun to get to use the original VH's. But ultimately, I like BL2 better.
I'd pay full price for BL 1 plot/settings/enemies/quests but with the graphics/gameplay of BL 3.
Oh yeah, that's been a real blast .... so are normal enemies seemingly taking 4-5 mags to kill. I mean it's possible I just need better guns but the guns are on level for the enemies I am shooting at, so they feel grossly ineffective, given that.
Ennh... yeah, I say you might want to upgrade your guns. I'd also suggest making sure Aim Assist is turned off.
Try out some different weapons, or different manufacturers, they all tend to behave differently.
Well, I mean if you're shooting an enemy with a gun that is the same level as the enemy is, you'd expect it to be at least reasonably effective against them. But playing this game feels more like BL2 on TVHM mode or something.
Depends on the gun.
Some are extremely effective. Some ... not so much. You gotta try them out.
