It gets to a point where the money is ridiculous. You'll likely notice that in BL2 and the pre-sequel, they toned done the amount of cash and item values, and are more likely to be saving money to get something special (or hoping to find something special) than in BL.
Then they added in the torgue tokens and seraph crystals. Not playing much multiplayer, I have never been able to get enough of either to buy anything I'd want to save for.
The bullet tour is worth doing if you want the achievement associated with it, but in the long run you will get that money back if you play normally and through the DLCs.
