This is more accurate.
The Destroyer, the boss monster was inside the Vault, you can't go in further, there is a just a wall behind him.
Pretty much.

Yeah but even the game describes it as a trap angel knew what they were getting into *spoiler for preseqeul* jackmanaged to get treasure from it though he got the friken eye to use as a lazer
Jack did get the eye of the Destroyer, but mainly it was the release of the vault's contents that started the spawning of Eridium that was of great interest to Jack.
It wasn't a "trap" so much as Jack wanted them to open - and defeat - the monstrosity inside to get at the presumed weapons cache. Instead, he got that Eridium stuff all over Pandora. Which was almost as good, seeing the events of BL2.
So while yes, the Vault Hunters were decieved by Angel, it was for other reasons than "trapping" them.
In the Pre-Sequel, he learns what it can do and plans accordingly for the events that unfold in BL2.
*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER*
Borderlands : Eridium was the treasure together with the eye of the destroyer.
Borderlands 2 : The Guardian himself was the Treasure because you can command him.
Pre-Sequel : Wisdom of what happens in your future.
So yeah each Vault has one more or less weird treasure.
