I used to run this in 800 x 600 trying to get a decent framerate, but now the monitor died and I had to buy a widescreen monitor, so the lowest I can do with a good aspect ratio is 1280 x 720.
The mobo would take up to four gig of RAM but I never got around to it, probably not worth it now.
Thank goodness this is the last year for this system, and I'll be on getting a new system soon.
Serious question:
If you were shopping for a new PC now, what would you recommend for a desktop gaming rig?
I'm going to be buying a new system soon (I already got a new monitor recently) and I haven't even shopped for this sort of thing in a few years. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
There are two guides to help with frames per second that I could find and they explain about V-SYNC.

Further research shows that vsync is OFF my default in the .ini file you will be editing, so if you are having fps limitations it's caused by your GPU settings, not the game.
no problem
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93ghz E7500
1Gb RAM DRR3
256mb video Chipset g41 shader pixel 3.0
EDIT: I apologize, I did not pay attention to the question. If you're looking for a higher frame rate within Borderlands, just set vertical sync to off within the 3D settings following the same instructions above only where it says adaptive set to off. However, in my own experience, my monitor only has a 60hz refresh rate, so I have to leave it on adaptive, which greatly helps with the screen tearing.
Adpative? I've always set vsync to off. I'll try adaptive next time I play.
It was a big improvement for me thank you.
It actually does have vsync but it's not available from within the game, you need to open the WillowEngine.ini like I mentioned above and change UseVsync=False to UseVsync=True (should be line 749 in notepad++ I believe) and to achieve fps over 60-62 change either MaxSmoothedFrameRate to the frame rate cap you want or bsmoothframerate to false which should default it to the max fps your monitor can handle but it won't try to smooth it i.e. less load (usually, like 99.99% of the time) but subject to some more frame dips/spikes but usually those are in high stress areas which would've likely caused some dips or spikes.
